Amigaworld.net Gets A Facelift
« on: January 07, 2003, 10:44:51 PM »
After many weeks of re-designs, the new Amigaworld.net theme has been finalised, check out our new theme here and lets us know what you think.

Amigaworld.net

They say that if you play a Microsoft CD backwards it has satanic messages on it... heck.. that\\\'s nothing.. if you play it fowards it will install Windows.

I never saw the old look, but this new one looks good!  :-)

The look is well... amiga.org with another logo. Don't know which one was first, but his XOOPS package is getting over-used. Oh well. It's pretty at least.

But thanks anyway for pointing it out

From what I can tell, having looked at many XOOPS oriented sites, the look seems pretty standard which kinda makes me think XOOPS doesn't give much room  for creativity. So is it really an amiga.org look or is amiga.org, amigaworld.net and all the other ones really nothing more than XOOPS lookalikes? I think the latter.

So I wish people would stop comparing all the XOOPS sites to amiga.org when the truth seems to be that if you use XOOPS, the layout is pretty much determined by XOOPS itself.

No disrespect to Wayne but XOOPS isn't Wayne's package. He chose it early last year after looking at several other content management systems and yes, it is way over used in the Amiga community. However, just because Wayne uses it doesn't mean others shouldn't. He hasn't got an exclusive right over it.

Personally, I think XOOPS is a pile of poo and would be looking elsewhere but if it works for some, that's all that matters.

I didn't choose XOOPS because Amiga.org uses it, I chose it because it has less security issues than the other CMS scripts (probably the same reason Wayne uses it).

I'm also working on editing the PHP to change the HTML output so that it looks less like the other XOOPS sites, but time isn’t on my side.

Amigaworld.net isn't trying to be an Amiga.org clone, what Amigaworld.net aims to do is to offer the Amiga Community everything under the one roof, as time goes on I will continue adding more features to the site.

Why shouldn't the Amiga community use XOOPS?  It's safe, reliable, and easy to use.

I wish people would stop complaining and instead support Amiga sites (there's not that many left), after all people don’t complain about all the 3D PC Games sites looking the same.

Hehe, yes of course XOOPS isn't Waynes personal creation.
It's a spelling error on my part:

The line I wrote that read "Don't know which one was first, but his XOOPS package..."

Should really read "Don't know which one was first, but this XOOPS package..."

So much for proof-reading one's texts...

@DaveyD

Hey, I wasn't dissin' your site. You asked, here on
amiga.org, what you site looked like to us. And the answer
is that (to me) it looks like amiga.org (or, as mentioned, the
standard XOOPS interface).

Which is not a bad thing at all. Easy to navigate and pretty.
You have a little different news content than other sites.
That is good and appreciated. Those icons are very nice
too.

I was actually defending you against the "Oh, another amiga.org clone" people :-)
