Merlancia Amiga MCC
« on: January 06, 2003, 07:54:15 PM »
Apparently, Merlancia is actually going to use their bought MCC design for new Amiga systems. It doesn't seem te be clear wether they will use the AmigaONE or the Pegasus board for their Merlancia Amiga Mulimedia Convergence Computer ...

OS4 is bundled with that machine?

It looks nice! I just might be interested in buying one!  :-) Then again, what if I want to use a bigger monitor with it? It wouldn't be that nice looking anymore with normal white Samsung 19"..  :-?

Just a reminder folks, Merlancia is largely a hoax.
It was mostly just Ryan and his mother, he claims he has some more help now, and his operation has consisted mainly of selling old amiga parts and systems from a tiny cluttered room..

The claims of being a worldwide engineering firm were exposed many months ago as being a hoax, and no matter how many times Ryan updates the website, it is still more empty talk.

Now, with that said, according to ryan this 'product' is similar to a pegasos motherboard.  He 'partners' with bPlan, and this motherboard, he says is not simply an exact copy of a pegasos, but differs in some nebulous way which he will not say, probably it fits the mcc case.

Hopefully his price will be better than for a regular pegasos bought from a reputable dealer, because I can tell you one thing, his mother and him have  a terrible reputation in this community for support on the products they sell.

I have no idea how much that design cost Amiga to commision in the first place....I hope not a lot....or how much they sold it for....but according to the realpix saga where a lot of Ryan's activities are exposed, he sent them 100,000 dollars...which is real money, I think....but it was not disclosed if this was a purchase price or simply a loan for other matters....

He lend Amiga Inc. some money at some point (At least he says so)?

The AmigaMMC design was bought from Amiga but no-one knows any details about whether he can actually call this pegasos based (look at the specs!!) computer running mophos an Amiga.

This is not a new PPC computer just a pegasos in a MMC tower. Honestly I doubt he could even produce the tower and especially the monitor would be expensive.

It would be very mis-leading to call it Amiga MMC  as it doesn't run OS4.

It says:

# 3 Horizontal PCI slots.

Does that mean some kind of raiser card?

Isn't that the original picture of the MCC that was posted in all the Amiga magazines years and years ago? If it's a "new" product wouldn't they produce a new picture of the system? Did they get the design for the monitor too?

He already said, that for various reasons the MMC will not look exactly as in that photo.  Again, no real reason given, but I imagine its because he didn't get that design produced, but is picking a similar looking design from stock cases...I might be giving him too much credit, perhaps he won't even have a similar looking case.

Its not that good looking a design, but we can wait and see, and I am sure someone will post a link to the source for the case in short order.

I agree with you, there will be no matching monitor.

It's an old joke, and amiga.org has shamed itself for posting this as a news item.   I have found recently that there is a lot more news than what appears on this site.  This site will spread a rumor like wildfire and then misses real news....well noone's perfect, but honestly....how thoroughly does ryan have to be debunked as a sham before amiga's news moderators think twice about it.  This wasn't even released as a news item by Merlancia and it made the news....good grief.

I think that amiga could do the coupon scam again tomorrow and get the same response...no one learns.

Merlancia Industries is currently working on a complete line of Multimedia and Internet systems, based on Motorola/IBM PowerPC processor technology, with specialized custom components and designer cases by Pentagram and other well known design groups including on-staff conceptual designers. These products, the 'Merlancia Amiga Multimedia Convergence Computer (MCC)' and 'Merlancia Torro' products will start to be available in Q1 2003, with Pilot systems shipping shortly.

Hehe, i will never forget the first time I walked into Merlancia. I hvent seen so much crap in one place ever since. I hope he does turn out to do well. We need some real systems on the street soon.

What differences will there be between this and the Gateway prototype model? A few. Notable differences include: extra ports on the front, a slot loading DVD/CD drive instead of tray loading, different port arrangement on the back, and the materials it is made out of (metal instead of plastic). It will also be a raised a little more so that youcan stow the keybaord under it ala A1000 style. These are "minor styling changes". Not affecting the look of the system, only ading things where none were before.

In regards to a matching monitor: Yes, there will be, and it will be 17", not 15" as the original MCC had. We are also considering a matching LCD, and a vertical stand (similar to the SONY PS2) for the unit so that it may be stood on its side.

Photos will be available shortly of the Pilot systems.

It looks like they'll be using the Pegasus board as they are partnered with Genesi. See below for more info: http://www.merlancia.com/partners/
