« on: January 02, 2003, 09:59:04 PM »
On AmigaX86 you can read some news regarding the non-release of a Amigax86...

To bad, could have been a nice option ...

Before anybody complains about the headline; it's just because the website announced something would be said on jan-2, I expected they would mention the release of a product... Not a " project is "shelved" until further notice." message... Sorta like an anti-climax (sp?)..

Looks more like a page just to advertise a computer shop,  ******* Computing.

How exactly do they think a non-announcement like this is going to benefit their reputation?
And even hyping it like they have, as if something good was actually about to happen?

I, for one, don't think any better of them after they pull a stunt like this (quite the contrary, actually).
Kind of reminds me of a certain wonderchip.

This kind of thing only leaves me with:
"That's it?"
"So what?"
"Tell me something I don't know!"

Do they actually think people with an (serious) interest in Amiga on x86 don't already know about Berniethlon/Umilator's state?

ARGH!! pfft!! gah!!  [venting frustration] :getmad:

heh, I just transformed my empty partition (slated for Amithlon) into a fat32 partition.  I'll just buy a new drive if it ever does see the light of day but I won't hold my breath.

Well, I believe that it was well known that they were working on some x86 Amiga but now that Umilator is DOA they did the right thing by making it public that we don't need to wait any more.  They also did a good job of exposing the reason it was shelved.  Little by little all the information will leak out and there will be no doubt who the real problem is.

And to think people are still buying products from retailers who still restock and sell Amithlon.  What are people thinking of?  How can people sit there and reward a retailer for screwing the Community over.  Not too mention H&P/Harold are making $ off of Bernie's (well Bernd's) blood, sweat and tears.

I've already sent email to Software Hut stating they lost a sale because they continue to sell Amithlon.  And they will continue to lose any of my business until they stopped selling Amithlon. Here is a product, snatched away from the jaws of victory by buttheads who rather screw the entire community over then to pay up what is owed by them.

Sure, a wide spread boycott could close a few Amiga based retailers.  I think we would be better off with even fewer Amiga retailers that atleast respect the Amiga community and our developers. It would also send a very strong signal to the publishers NOT to screw over our developers.

I'm more reserved on this one.
If someone announces a product and its shelved, at some point they should update the community and let us know the project is withdrawn.

This company, while small and trying to resell pc boxes, was, in fact, trying to put together the small details for releasing a OS 3.9 pc based box, which had some interest in this community.

They didn't pretend to be more than they are, they probably would have released the product had not Amiga, Inc. fouled up things so badly (yes I switched the blame to the real fools)

And I think extreme computing will be an interesting reseller of amiga products in the future.
Anyway, noone can escape criticism for a failure...and so I hope the owners of extreme computing are not shocked to be the recipients of criticism, they did pre-announce a product that was never released, and this community is sick of that.

They should wait until all the details are finalized.
Just like with Amiga OS XL, even after all the details are finalized, Amiga, Inc. may come behind you and stab you in the back and threaten lawsuits,.

But, if at least you wait to announce the product to the day it is ready to ship, you can at least ship it for a while before the fireworks start, and a few people can buy it.

This is far better than pre-announcing and never releasing.

i don't see anything wrong with this announcment. i was one of those people who was hoping to have this company make and sell me an amilthlon laptop.

i waited and waited and this nov got a laptop and will figure out how to put amiga on it. i don't blame them, it's not their fault. they did the best they could - but sometimes life works out this way.

it's nice of them to say something. i wish them luck.
