« on: December 17, 2002, 09:08:23 AM »
Looks like the ball is rolling again! from http://lists.gpsoft.com.au/pipermail/dopus5/2002-December/000197.html:

Quote
For Immediate Unrestricted Release: Brisbane, December 17th:

Dr Greg Perry said today that after negotiations with Ben Hermans, GPSoftware and Hyperion have resolved all outstanding issues related to contract for Directory Opus and wish to announce that the contract has been fully reinstated. Greg said "We are very pleased to see these issued cleared up so that the future for Directory Opus on the Amiga can be assured by Hyperion and that development can continue for OS4 and beyond. We wish Hyperion the best in their endeavours with Directory Opus for Amiga and the development of OS4."

GPsoft lost all interest in Amiga some time ago! there is a reason a Windows version came out ;) at least theyve licensed the code to Hyperion not that im a fan of it myself i quite like v4.

I would guess that they are not that interested in the Amiga, but they certainly know how to use the forums to push their agenda.  I just hope it isn’t a case of Hyperium being pushed into a bad deal.  I don’t use Dopus myself, but it might be nice to play around with as an option, as long as this hasn’t delayed the release of 4.0 an additional month.

Will Opus be just an added software to OS4 (as IBrowse) or will it be an enhanced or even PPC rewritten Opus? Didn't follow the issue this deep, to be honest...  :-)

I might be wrong but from what info i have they will fix a few issues and add it on the CD so you wont have to install it! over time they hope to get it ported to PPC! if it will ever get intergrated into the OS i dont know but i hope not! i like beeing able to choose what i want to use and i personaly am not a big fan of it.

Hiya peeps (and 4pLaY specifically)

So then, is there a list anywhere saying what will be done with the DOpus code?

I am on the Dopus Mail list and have not seen any mention about what will be done with it..

Does anyone know if the DOpus for OS4 will be a port of the Windows DOpus6, or the IMHO far superior DOpus5.8 Magellian II? Or will it be something else entirely?

I'd like to see DOpus used as a complete integral replacement for Workbench. It would give OS4 such an enormous advantage over MOS, AROS and the emulations it would be unreal. :-)

@KennyR

AFAIK it's Dopus Magellan II and not the windows version.
