SharkPPC
« on: October 01, 2003, 05:42:21 PM »
What is this accelerator intended for? Is it going to be strictly OS4.0 oriented, or can it be used with OS3.9 as well? It would be cool if it could run on OS3.9 with full backwards compatibility with 603e/604e WarpUP programs, but somehow I doubt this would ever happen. By the looks of it, it would probably totally leave the classic Amiga environment behind, and go straight for OS4.0 only stuff.  :-o

If the SharkPPC/Mightron is released I guess it will be supported only by OS4... It would be nice to have it supported by MorphOS too, but given the relationship between Elbox and the rest of the world I doubt that Genesi even wanted that.

If I remember correct, the sharkPPC is only for OS4(.x?) but can fit in a mediator (e.g. for A1200, A4000 etc.), so you can now run OS4 on your classic amiga... But, I've heard about alot of complications between ELBOX and the OS4 crew... Something about not sharing infomation...

That's all I know...

shark is for os4 .. , anyway i doubt it will ever happen ... , you know... its now 4 years since we was first shown this... and if they wanted to release it...they could and people would have bought it...for linux reasons and such... + i am pretty sure morphos would be tryed to get running on it aswell..

beyond that..last i checked hyperion and elbox aint co-op on the shark matter... hyperion doesnt have the info nor the devkit etc , it might have changed by now..

for the information elbox gave us..., sharkppc should work straight off and this is where people think this is and will be vapor forever.

developing such a highend hack and expect it to work straight off..and even with os4... sounds too good to be true...and if it worked why on earth havent they bothered to release it for os3.9 ? ...

i call it a sales trick by elbox for now.

time will tell..
Whats up with all the hate!

There's a card called mightron that seems quite similar to the promised SharkPPC, uses ArticiaS etc... It's made by Topshine http://www.topshine.com.tw/Show/Default.htm
here you have a Teron micro-ATX with usb2, raid etc... and a pci card with a ppc and the ArticiaS and another one with a G3

So in my opinion OS4 may work with little changes from Hyperion...

But why, the Amiga One Lite will almost replace it anyway. You could actually put that little motherboard inside a case with a normal motherboard and network it! :-)

Ah, the mythical SharkPPC!

It was one of the reasons why I bought my Mediator three years ago, and I'm suprised that it's been discussed for so long.

Anyway, firm details are VERY thin on the ground.  Elbox are notoriously private about their work in progress, so you rarely get to hear of anything new until it actually arrives.  I've tried emailing them in the past and they've pointed me to their website, and those of us on the Mediator Yahoo group know very little else.

Apart from a static display of a single prototype AFAIK nothing has ever been revealed to the public, so this mythical device remains an enigma.
