Amiga webcam software/hardware
« on: October 01, 2003, 02:04:04 PM »
I think an interesting use of my always-on internet connect would be to run a webcam.

The question is, is such a thing possible with Amiga hardware. I did a quick search on Aminet and found a few ARexx scripts but no integrated gui based packages that easily talk to standard webcams.

If it is possible, what sort of camera should I buy (I don't want to spend too much money). I have an A4000 to zorro digitiser cards would be an option if required.

I really don't want to have to build a PC if I can help it!

Well this is on my to do list but kind of far down, but I think it is possible with the commerical product VHI studio.  My biggest worry is that my web cam is a par. port type, but I think my add on ser/par. card can emulate the pc par. signaling without a problem.  USB webcam should be easy and I even think some of the USB cards may have something basic to at least get the web cam up and running though not doing anything special.  Not much info. but at least you know you are not the only interested party.   ;-)

Vhi studio does this , but you dont need to buy vhi studio for this only...since "poseidon" has this software aswell, called pencamtool ..

and poseidon is the stack you need to use usb , ie you get it bundled now with the stuff u buy, if you have a spider u will only get a demo and you will not be able to update it.

so if you dont have a spider usb regged (elbox) and poseidon regged , forget it...go for for the other alternatives.

cheers

Whats up with all the hate!

Hello,
little self-advertising ;)

On my homepage you find an Arexx-Script to use either a Vlabmotion or the older Vlab to make a webcam.  It captures a picture from a videocamera in a given intervall and uploads it to your  homepage (ftp). It uses ADPRO to process the picture a little and to insert date and time.

Maybe that is what you need...

Kind regards selco
