G-Rex Petition
« on: November 28, 2002, 10:33:56 PM »
"As you could read at www.vgr.com(22.11.2002), there will be NO! GRex PCI BridgeBoard support in AmigaOS 4.0 ´cause Hyperion never received Hardware documentations from DCE (which memory-/chip-address room you have to allocate, the lowlevel things).
Thats why we choose to make a petition, to show the advance the release of the documentation.
"

More information about this petition can be found here ...

The advantages are:

- free choice of the Operating System (AmigaOS 3.9 (68k), AmigaOS 4 (ppc) or MorphOS (ppc)
- More tools, programms and drivers could be released (3rd Party)
- All Operating Systems would benefit on 3rd Party drivers/tools/programms
- the more tools/programms are available, the more customers would decide to bo buy the GRex Board

disadvantages are:

- Choice of only two Operating Systems AmigaOS 3.9 (68k) and MorphOS (ppc)
- No 3rd Party driver/tools/programms
- No real inducement, ´cause there are to little drivers and the existing drivers are buggy

Isn't the G-Rex compatible with the openpci.library ?
Because if it is, I don't see the point of this petition.

Taken from vgr.com:

// Mr. 'Ben Hermans/Hyperion' (aka "HyperionMP" posting from Leuven, Belgium), Hyperion Entertainment's Managing partner (and manager of the AmigaOS4 project) posted

"OpenPCI library will not be ported to OS 4.0, at least not for the GREX. The author has confirmed to Hyperion that bPlan has forbidden him to do anything which would result in GREX support for OS 4." //

Disclaimer: Remember that this is a quote from vgr.com and that I have nothing to do with its content. Any comments should be made to who made the original statement, and not me.

I own Mediator (PCI ZIV) and I think that it´s the best PCI solution, But doesn´t the only solution. For that reason I think that GREX´s owners must to have support for this hardware in OS4. They are Amiga users like me or prometheus owners.

PLEASE DCE, SUPPORT HYPERION.

If bPlan want to stay in business when AOS4 becomes the normal they they ought to write drivers for AOS4 even if its isn`t openpci based. The AOS3
market is non-existant. Can't see the logic of it unless they have something else planned .......

DCE should not be supported at all. Thats just my argument to this. They dont deserve any kindness from our community. They just dont care about you.

There are actual users out there that have bought G-Rex PCI adapters and want to use these with OS 4, and you don't want them to be able to do this because you don't like DCE? :-?

Listen to yourself.
