Yeah, it would be nice if the company making the AOS4 drivers  could say a bit about what cards they support, what the cost of the drivers will be and so on.

Who was it that made them anyway? Can't remember..

As it's been said before, we are attempting to support as many of the various Radeon models as we can.  When we have a definative list, we'll publish it.  For now, you're probably best staying away from the 9000 series.  As far as cost goes, they have been licensed to be included with AmigaOS4, so there really is no cost to speak of from the consumers' point of view.

Ahh okey :) Thanks for your answer!

Some info <- there

Ever thought of putting up a more permanent information page about you doing the drivers with some other info and such? Perhaps a FAQ? (if there already is one I didn't find it)

Regards,

Nice professional website (I've said it before).  And the prices look decent too.  I like the ability to play around with the configuration and see the price differences.

But some Amiga dealers sell complete AmigaONE systems with Radeon 9000 LE. So should I try to change my order or ...?
Couldn't you put up some short information on supported hardware and progress information of work-in-progress. Thanks for your support.
Have fun,
Santa

That's true.  We need some guidance in terms of what hardware to buy.  So far we know we can choose one of three motherboards, we know that the RAM has to be buffered (how much RAM is another story, but I'm getting 256M to be safe), and we know we can plug in any IDE hard disk or CD/DVD ROM and a Sound Blaster Live.  The only 'big' thing that's left is the graphics card.  I'm sure right now people aren't worried about 3D (in any case, that's Hyperion's job, right?), they want to know which cards they can run their 2D apps on.

Like the man said:

"For now, you're probably best staying away from the 9000 series. "

The documentation for the newer chip versions used in the 9000/9500/9700 is still being prepared for the likes of us non Windows people and is not yet available to us from ATI. We are currently able to work on drivers for the pre-9000 chip versions, so I'd suggest putting your money into one of those now. We'll update things when the 9000+ documentation becomes available to us,  and recommend avoiding these cards for Amiga use until we're able to support them.

While there is some possibility that the 7x00/8x00 2D drivers might work with 9x00 cards, we don't want to promise this until we can guarantee it, much like the Voodoo3 drivers were found to work to some extent with the 4000/5000 cards, these versions aren't supported by the driver writers due to a lack of documetation specific to that version of the voodoo chips. We're just waiting for ATI's newer documentation before we encourage 9x00 model purchases for use with our code.

Yep, it list's an 8500LE as an option in their configurator.

I saw on your website that the graphic card cannot be removed unlike the sound card, any chance this will change? I already  have a spare Voodoo3 and a Radeon 7500 and I'm sure there are other people in this situation who don't want to pay for the graphic card.

The thought was the complete systems were for people who wanted to open the box, plug it in, and go.  However, I do see your point and there is now an option to not include any video card.  Thanks for your input.
