Sendo junks MS smartphone, joins Nokia camp

Ouch! Microsoft got a kick in the teeth today from one of its few Smartphone allies. Sendo, the UK handset maker, today announced that it's stopping all development on the Windows for Smartphone 2002 platform. It is instead signing a licence for Series 60, the Nokia smartphone platform erected upon the Symbian OS.

I wonder what Amiga Inc think of this. Have they got a version of AA that runs on Symbian? If not, I think they'd better because no big mobile manufacturer is touching MS Smartphone 2002 AKA 'Stinker'.

Someone said on the previous nokia news item that AmigaDE runs on SymbianOS

Nokia will have SymbianOs? and what happens on AmigaDE that has a allied with Microsoft? will the games for the AmigaDE+microsoft run also on other AmigaDE enabled devices?

I`m very glad that we joined with the MS because its a big deal but I hope it doesn`t turn from Amiga-Anywhere to Amiga-OnlyM$

LOL  :-D.

I can imagine all Amiga users will react very schizophrenic. One half of ego: 'Great, less market share for the evil M$!', other half: 'Crap, less marketshare for A Inc!'.

Oh my god!!!!

It looks like "pre installed AA" is going to have as long and as painful a birth as the original Amiga (perhaps thats somehow apropriate).

I hope Amiga.inc can salvage this deal as they are running out of people to license DE.

It's a pitty as I personaly think that the DE platform has so much potential.

Here's hoping that it is just a catapillar in it's chrysalis and it will finaly make it out as a butterfly (at the moment I would be happy with a moth).

Hmm...

Looks like Nokia can exert the same influence over mobile phone "OEM's" as Microsoft can over the X86 desktop.

I wonder if Microsoft will persue the "monopoly" ace card against Nokia ???

What the hell... Stranger things have happened.

Thing is Amiga aren't locked into M$ in any way, they are just a partner as was nokia until they canned the STB thing they had.  I think AA/DE will run on nokia devices anyway (as well as many others).

M$ is a marketing content for their stuff only, and that content happens to be DE stuff.  I'm sure if a further deal was struck with Nokia, then they would market DE software too.  As the more content a platform has availalbe the more appealing it becomes.

Wow!  Another Amiga "partner" who dumps them shortly after the announcement?  I know I'm shocked.

All,

This is the same partnership garbage Amiga Inc. has been spouting since Sharp.  Microsoft products will run DE.  Microsoft does not object to this.  Hence, Microsoft is a partner.

The Sharp Zarus was the same deal.  Please point me to an official announcement on Amiga Inc's site or Microsoft's site that states that the phones will come with Amiga products installed on them or even with an Amiga package.  You can purchase one separately, which is what you already have now.

It seems as though, in typical Amiga Inc. fashion, they have throne the community some vague info that the community jumps on as GREAT news.  In reality Amiga Inc. is no better off today than they were a month ago.

Later,
Ocriss

This was even faster than any other deal Amiga Inc made...just amazing...

Oh well, i think it's time Amiga Inc abandon their 'write once, run nowhere' idea together with their PDA idea, which was total crap in the first place. Let's face it, their product was announced to run everywhere, and it actually runs nowhere.

Do the decent thing AInc. Either concentrate on OS4 or put the Amiga to rest for ever. There is no way in the world you can compete with the big boys.  :-x so don't drag the name of THE BEST COMPUTER EVER in the mud...

Like so many people here, you don't have a clue what Amiga's plan is but you still have to comment against something just because you don't like it.

The only thing that has happened here is one manufacturer that was to use Smartphone has (for some unknown reason, it seems) given up for something else (that for sure the AACE can be made to run on without much effort anyway).

But this is Microsoft we're talking about. They settle with nothing less than to dominate the markets they enter, and Amiga still has a partnership with them not only for Smartphone but for PocketPC as well. This is the strongest base you can expect for content delivery. Sendo's decision becomes quite irrelevant and it's their loss actually.
