ATI Increases Its Lead - The New Radeon 9700, 9500 PRO and 9500
« on: October 25, 2002, 10:52:26 AM »
From Toms Hardware Guide:

After launching its 9700 PRO, ATI sends its smaller siblings into the battle of the market shares. The Radeon 9700, 9500 PRO and 9500 bridge the gap to the lower-priced of the 9000 series. Our tests show you what's behind all this.

ATI rocks!
Now if only Matrox could releasa a Parhelia II and PowerVR a Kyro III, both with 300+ MHz clockspeed, then we could have lower prices on GFx boards...

There are also reviews on HardOCP (probably under another D.o.S attack, but it is the best review in my opinion) and AnandTech.

I will wait on the Sapphire 9500 Pro I think... Sapphire make the cards for ATI, but they also sell them for cheaper themselves now, so the 9500 Pro from them might cost around $150 or less, retail.

The 3DFX series line-up were my favorite till they got bought out.  I liked ATI next, but then nVidia was starting to release some killer cards.  Its nice to see ATi had chanse to put the GeForce lineup to shame!  :-D

One thing that's important to remember before you rush out to buy one of these bad boys is that not all these high-end cards are going to work on the AmigaOne (or the Pegasos for that matter).  The Radeon 9700 for example only supports AGPx4 and AGPx8, while both next-gen Amigas only handle AGPx2 (also AGPx1).

I'm thinking I'll probably get a Radeon 8500 - it's one of the best cards ATI made before the 9700.  Of course, it all depends on driver support...

Who cares about the GFx card in the A1?
Even if one gets the hottest GFx card, there wouldn't be any games utilizing to max.
I belive that the smartest option would be to get a cheaper card and save the bucks for A1XE...

Radeon 9500/9700 and PRO versions support AGP 1x/2X/4x/8x. Info at the link in the news item.
