Red Hat Linux 8.0 released
« on: September 30, 2002, 07:07:46 AM »
Arguably the first major restructuring of the Red Hat Linux interface since 6.0, Red Hat Linux 8 includes a new, unified interface, GNOME 2.0 to enable powerful interface features, integration with OpenOffice.org and Mozilla 1.0, and even a very Amiga/Mac-like Panel type called the Menu Panel (it sits at the top of the screen and even has a very Finder-like feature on the right). More info on Red Hat 8.0 is available at RedHat.com.

AmigaInc and partners ????

Or does anybody still believe in that 3 year old "partner-ship"  :-P
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

There is something strange about RedHat Distro. They have distro for ALPHA CPU (HP), PowerPC 64 bit (IBM) and Mainframe (IBM), but there is NO distro for PowerPC 32 bit. Other Distro (SUSE, YD, Debian, Mandrake) have PowerPC 32 bit version, but RH just ignore the architecture.

However it is strange that RH staffs are involved in Linux PowerPC kernel development and the person who created GCC 3.2 for Altivec is working for RH.

Perhaps if AmigaOne is succesful, RH will release a Distro for it. If Amiga HW use the new Power4 CPU (Oct. 2002), perhaps the new CPU will be compatible with RH Distro.

Looks good, but what about the “out of the box” multimedia support?

PS; Australian PC Magazine November edition, will have Mandrake Linux 9.0(X86) on it’s cover discs (October 22nd release)....
Amiga 1200 PiStorm32-Emu68-RPI 4B 4GB.
Ryzen 9 7900X, DDR5-6000 64 GB, RTX 4080 16 GB PC.
