OASE Report (plus lotsa picies)
« on: September 23, 2002, 01:26:14 AM »
GFX-BASE brings us an excellent report from OASE (Open Amiga Southeast Europe Show) which gives lot of glimpses of Pegasos, MorphOS, AmigaOne, OS4 as well as a description of what we're looking at. A fantastic report, wish i was there, so check it out!

What's the X terminal program they're running? [there's an X logo in the lower left]

The Ambient-thing looks very nice! Much nicer than the Workbench in os3.9-4.0 (dont know what parts of os4 were shown). And, while talking design and looks, I dont like the very PC-BIOS starting-up-look-alike-booting shown! I want fancy graphics with a hand putting in a disk :-)! I know it has nothing to do with things, but still it's my opinion.

Progress? Bah! Not for me, give me more power but with that old feeling! ;-)

I really like that report..
Seems as if MOS will ahve 3D support, through Rave3D, which IIRC is rather good.

Any way, it now depends on who will be first.

I'm more interested in which product is likely to be of better quality and have decent after-sales service. Without naming names, some players in the PPC mobo game have an extremely poor reputation.

I know some of the players have a very bad reputation.
Any way, quality and support is the key words.

DCE won't repair the Pegasos boards, get your facts
straight.

Sorry, when did anyone say "DCE will repair any faulty pegasos boards" ?

Thats right, nobody did.

Cheers,

J :-D

She talked about bad quality and after sales service
of some players in the PPC mobo game.
This would mean P5 in it's final days (logical, they
had no money and no parts...) and DCE.

The A1 won't have much trouble booting MorphOS, since the Pegasos is virtually the same board - just don't expect too much help from bPlan to get it to work...

@KennyR

?????

Different (better) Southbridge = same board ?
Different (better) BIOS = same board ?

But yes MorphOs is said to have been running on the TeronCX
(A1), but with the old BIOS. Running a unmodified Pegasos-
version on an A1 will probraly not work (just like the other
way round).

But since someone mentioned it:
Who's gone repair faulty A1s ?

Eyetech who were once talking about selling a consumer board
with a BGA-socket (and have nothing to do with the actual
development/production of the boards) or do you need to send it
to Taiwan ?
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

Here we go again...

I have a few questions for you Kronos:

1. Exactly what is "better" with the southbride on the Pegasos? I might be newer but what features does it give the pegasos that the a1 is missing? Or is there a speed advantage using this "better" southbride chip?

2. What is "better" with the bios for the pegaos? AFAIK, both the bios of Pegasos and A1 has unique features (like FFS in the Pegasos bios and the x86-emulator in the A1 bios). So can you elaborate why you think the bios in the Pegaos is better?

BTW, did you know that AOS4 is better than Morphos? :-P
