Merlancia Clarifies Concerns on Legal Status
« on: September 18, 2002, 03:11:24 AM »
Once again it seems we are left to clarify a normally easy to understand issue that really is not important to those outside the company/corporate staff.

The short scoop: Merlancia is still alive and well, despite wishes of those who would plot for our demise out of spite and malice...

Please read this Merlancia Press Release on this matter for further details.

As for Merlancia being a total hoax, actually "they" included Dave Haynie after he parted company with Metabox, Harv Laser, and others at one point not too long ago. So it was, at least for a while, a group that had the potential to produce something. But now Dave has left and I'm not sure about the others. In the end you're probably right, but I wanted to clarify that there was some substance at Merlancia at least temporarily.

Yes, that is a valid point.  I was more active in the amiga community at one time, and I used to pretend it was a complete hoax even from the beginning....everything is  a hoax until it does something...I did very much doubt Ryan had the resources to produce anything, I was aware that Ryan had more than no resources, apparantly Ryan had some cash he was willing to burn.

He bought his way into a minor status as an Amiga player, but in the end nothing was produced, except a small web site selling a few things at high prices that was never updated  and now that AmigaZone isn't relevent it looks like he is hosting the final resting place for that venture.

Should I gloat, naaaa probably not, I'm sure he tried, and thats good:)

But he should come clean and be honest.  for example, we all know imageFX is a one man plus operation....so what he produces, its a good product, its OK, we're a small community we understand.

What we all hate is false promises, megalomania, and the like.

:-( It's sad, really.  I hope all the best for Merlancia; stainless steel 'miggy laptops sound so cool.

-But not at the quoted prices.  And there is no easy way out of their situation, either.  Mass production will drive the cost down, but to produce enough units to drive the price low enough that your average use could afford one would require a market larger than currently exists.  This is why Eyetech aren't (currently) producing laptop Amigas.

:-( Maybe once the market picks up it will be practical, but I think that's a few years down the road, at minimum.

;-) Hopefully, Merlancia's expenses are as minimal as their current revenue.  Web pages cost almost nothing to host and maintain.  A single optimist's spare time is enough.

I won`t name names, but when i read that some people were pleased about the bad rumours, I was really annoyed.

Good luck and happy developing and selling.
