No offense, but I can't believe that's even close to the new AmigaOS 4.0 GUI. This is not the way to introduce AmigaOS4.0 to the world, they'll laught at us if they didn't do that the first time Hyperion posted some screenshots of the new OS. What happend to that individual who was supposed to design the new Amiga look? :-?

Whoever took those screenshots, please get rid of that terrible topaz font and download Jaybee's AmigaInABox than you'll know what I mean  :-D

PfffhhhHAhahAHAA..  :-D

Not that screenshots in any large way shows
the real functionality, but it is a fact that most
people gets alot more interested if it looks GOOD.
This does not. Actulally, nothing from OS4 this far
looks good. Pherhaps colorblind people are better coders, I dont know  ;-)

Looks like a classic Amiga running some Os4 parts in 3.5+. Why don't you complaining guys make a new look for these people to show off then if it's that important.

It's amazing that people think that these demos are made by anythign else than by some hobbyists who is betatesting a few parts of the final OS.

It would be something completely different if HYPERION (ofcourse, one should clean read everything twice atleast ;) themselves were to publically show off OS4 at a gathering or the like. If they had some low quality setups in the GUI visuality department, then and only then hang them by the rope. The guys showing these demos are just people like you and me, with the diifference that they have got their hands on some beta testing software.

If that is an *OS4* build e.g. running on execSG and on PPC it shows two things :

A: The code side is almost finished
B: The icon set / Gui set need to be implemented.

But its most likely the OS4 modules running under os 3.5 / 3.9 , and that person hasn't spent the time changing all their old style / MagicWB icon or configuring the GUI.

A big part of the problem here is not just look-and-feel but interface design. Take a look at the layout of some of these applications and compare them to equivalents that would appear on any other modern OS. There are simply too many buttons and text edit boxes jammed into one window, along with that putrid Topaz font. And why do Amiga applications always have their dialog buttons spread out over the full width of the window rather than side by side? Yuck!

Anyway, as others have commented, I'm sure this is a preview of the low-level functionality not the GUI.

One sad thing is the use of Reaction (ClassAct).
I just cannot stand its look, its plain ugly and messy.

To put some positive comments on this just to
balance things, OS4 is probably very good underneath, well as good as it can be based on
the old Exec anyway.

Yep, it's clearly some OS4 modules running on top of an older install (presumably 3.5 or higher.. even though there seems to be a system partition called "WB2"), but I wouldn't expect anything else unless the screenshots came direct from Hyperion.  There seems to be some sort of iconify hack on there as well, an iconify gadget on some of the windows doesn't fit the titlebar properly.

Mind you, the backdrop picture is gorgeous.

SInce there are people dotted all over the globe testing OS4. It would be hard to expect them all to hold to the official Amiga screen design standards. Some may not have them and some may not be aware of their existance.

These shots are mainly to keep amiga community people aware that it is being worked on and progress is being made.

Although I do hope we will get a more attractive and presentable layout when the OS is finally marketable.

Well, that would be correct if it wasn't for the fact that H&P isn't involved in the devlopment of AmigaOS4 at all. AmigaOS4 is developed by Hyperion + certain partners of theirs.

Besides, where did those screenshots come from? I know Gunne has an AmigaOne but does he have a beta version of AmigaOS4 as well?

Anyway, stop complaining about the looks already. No design work has been made yet at all since that is the last thing you apply when developing software. The GUI engine isn't even finished yet. Take Mason's word for it, it will look so much better once it becomes a finished product, ok?
