Matt P's latest AROS disk image with a workbench clone
« on: September 11, 2002, 09:32:36 AM »
:-)  This was posted over at ann:
"My latest AROS disk image contains a simple workbench clone desktop.  Download it and try it and enjoy it. The desktop is to provide a graphical way to navigate these early test releases of AROS, don't expect all the bells and whistles, they will be added later. Thank you all, Matt P. "

Been messing with it for a while now and I am impressed with what they have so far!  Needs work but it is a great start.

Yeah! Thank you so much Matt!
I was asking where I could grab a newer version in the thread about the latest update, and lo and behold.
I gotta try this tomorrow, thanks again  :-D

Yes, it's actually quite fun to play with "workbench" again isn't it.

I hope to get the CD ROM ISO updated soon with the "workbench" so that the more adventerous of you can actually do something ion AROS.
Though I would really like to get some decent gfx drivers working first... :-D

P.S. Thanks to the chap reported about my disk images, I didn't have time to do it today.

I just started looking through the sources and have been playing with the old iso and new floppy image.

All I'll say is it still needs a lot of work.

Way cool...

Good work team. ( I love it)...

Any chance of "porting" to a AmigaDE version ???

You just never know, It could become OS5 ;-)

The AmigaDE is a run time environment.

AROS is an Opearting System.

It would kinda be weird running AROS from the AmigaDE. I could see why may you might want to port workbench to the DE but the whole operating sytem?

Couldnt see the point

The AmigaDE is a run time environment.

Tao’s technology contains relatively fast virtual processor.

Entire OS can be built on top of abstract processor layer.

Why not? It has a virtual processor.

No it does not hava a virtual processor. Everything runs natively and all VP binaries/tools are translated to native code before being run. There is no interpreting virtual CPU under DE/Elate.

When compiling something to VP it just means that the code is stored on media targeted for a thought out virtual processor. But there is no actual virtual processor processing that code when it is run. It is simply recompiled to native code, ie to the processor it is to be run on.

All info about this is publically available at TAO's homepage.

AROS, well, the true amigazed qnx :)
Great work. Previous release had strange results for me in terms of display, all it's ok now. I will print disks labels at work, good idea.
