Pretty good coverage, it's a shame the Nokia info is included though considering the MediaTerminal crashed and burned:-(

If there is one thing i hate about the register (or maybes its just the registers coverage of Amiga information) it is never long enough and never detailed enough. More needs to be said, more information needs to be quote, paraphrased or just plant re-stated!!!

Articles like these dont do us much justice at all. All it did was point out that the feature list was there to read if you wanted to.

What it shouldhave done is discuess point about the feature list - the good and the bad - and maybe some personal comments from the author on what he would have liked to see in the feature list.

Another bad thing about that was it mentioned the Nokia deal, which doesnt really exist anymore (correct me if im wrong) because the Mediaterminal has been pulled.

I know the register is a popular site - so all their stories cant be this boring can they?

O well, any coverage is good coverage i guess :) - so stop your wiening :P

Any coverage is certainly good coverage! You just have to think back to a time when the Amiga was still a viable platform, but it was porposely ignored by mainstream press altogether.

. The shell, the GUI and the TCP/IP stack are already native PPC code.

How do you do (or better test) that when the kernel isn't finished yet ?

"RoadShow" (or whatever it's named now) has been more or less finished over one year
ago (was running on an Amithlon-beta for example) and is written in C (AFAIK).
How easy it will recomplie to PPC and how it will perform under OS4 is yet to be seen.

Nokia has blessed Amiga by incorporating the technology in its long-anticipated digital home hub, the Nokia Mediaterminal.

Hasn't that been discontinued months ago ?

Seems to be a "well researched" article, and the "68000-based Commodore Amiga 4000s"
adds fuel to that idea  ;-)

Sorry but articles like this is NOT what is good for OS4 !
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

According to Thomas Frieden, the Exec SG is mostly done, but they're adding things like virtual memory to it. Presumably thats enough of a framework to start running other modules of OS4.

Most of the code could have been developed in C and run on existing Amigas while waiting for the new Exec. It wouldn't be too hard to then move them over.

Stop picking holes in every little thing Kronos, its pathetic.

I don't think its that bad. It draws attention to the fact that things are happening, and gives links to where people can get more information.

Picky picky picky

TheRegister is read by a large number of IT professionals who may have been ex-Amiga users and just didn't know that the Amiga still exists.

Getting IT press coverage is a win regardless of minor errors or lack of deatil.

Just like all the articles about:
A5000
Walker
A/Box
PreBox
PIOSOne
iWin
BoXeR
A1(Escena)
OS4-Intent
OS4-InHouse
....

Anybody outside the "community" that remembers these will put this article
in the same category.

Better wait until you got something REAL to show !
1. Make an announcment.

Well intended failures but has nothing to do with the current Amiga Inc.

Umm you forgot Pegasos. I guess you think P5 should shut up too? Don't forget these are your MOS guys.

Yeesh. Digging for anything again kronos? One could bash bPlan the same way. How many failures did P5(now bPlan aka MOS) have? Watch those stones you are throwing it might hit the glass houses other companies are in.

@Red
1. I did mention A/Box and PreBox which were Phase5 concepts.
(I mentioned only failed products, and thats something you can't say
about the Pegasos (atm) just like the A1-MAI)

2. I haven't seen bPlan making any "big noise" outside the "community".

3. I never said that I would like everything done by bPlan/Thendic.

If someone is interested in the Amiga and reads this article, what do
you think would he do ?

Questioning Nokia about the "Mediaterminal" ?  :-x

Looking up what an 68000 was ?  :-x

Trying to find out what SW runs on OS4 ?  :-x

Asking when it will be released ?  :-x

Asking "how do I run R-Type on my smartphone" ?

Not every publicity is good publicity !! And this one sucks

I know and I thought the point it seemed you were trying to make was ironic.

They want to alright, they just have a harder time because they lack 'the name'. Some would argue this is why they try to associate themselves with 'the name' as much as possible. I don't know the story behind the canceled tv appearance, but it's obvious the show wanted them on because they thought it was an Amiga product.

@Red
Your right about that bPlan tried to get into "neues" on 3/Sat, but
there were some emails from 3Sat posted on Amiga-News.de
(with author's o.k  ;-) ) that made it clear that the one who invited bPlan knew who they were (not) and that
someelse put the misleading info onto the webpage.

If they are interested, they will certainly look.
The Registers reporting on Amiga has always been positive. Indeed, on this report, the only bit of fun they had was 'alloneword' stuff.
I posted the link to them yesterday 11.12am (UK BST). Since then, they've bothered to trawl their  archives and link the news to recent announcements as well. And then put it up. Why? They know there are people out there that remember the Amiga, and are interested in what's happening.

Let's face it Kronos, the only reason that you're here is that there isn't anywhere near enough traffic on the 'morefuss' ML for you to rant at. Over there it's like screaming down the Grand Canyon: the only sound you hear is the echo of your own voice.
