The latest and greatest *new* Amiga!
« on: September 26, 2003, 11:44:58 PM »
I'm kind of glad I didn't buy an AGA machine back in the 90's because now I have something new to look forward to... and i'm not talking about the imaginary AOne.
I'm about to buy an A1200 for the first time... upgrading from my a500 and rusty a2000... just wondering about the Hard drive setup on it- I know it's an IDE HD- does this mean I can hook up more than one drive like on a pc box? (only to transfer files, i dont want to tower it)

If not- how do i put a decent size hard drive in it (like 10gigs plus) and transfer the data from the existing hard drive....?

Any advice welcome... ;)

You can attatch more than one drive at once, but
it's better to use a cheapo 4 - way adapter (to
prevent possible damage to the "unbuffered" IDE
port).

As far as big drives, in my experience your best bet
is to use an alternate filesystem such as SFS or
PFS in conjunction with some "IDE - fix" software,
any 4 - way adapter you buy should come with it.
Configuring everything can be a pain but you'll
get it.

2 drives is max on internal ide port...4 drives is max if u have an 4 way adapter

2 drives per cable (if a 4way adapter)

use any sized hdd  , but FFS and os3.0/1  has certain limits , so i think u should consider getting os3.5 or 3.9 .

anyway tell us more and i will try and help as much as possible.

a1200 is a great machine ..
Whats up with all the hate!

yea, i'd get my self an 4way buffered ide. i've been using eide express for over two years its great, but it fits over one of the chips on the mother board and might get in the way of future expanison.
