A Closer Look at the New Amiga Systems (Mike Bouma)
« on: July 15, 2002, 08:15:22 PM »
Mike Bouma has published a new lengthy article article about the AmigaOne and OS4.

There are some new OS 4 screenshot and details of different configurations of linux and MOL running on the A1 developer board.

Whilst a lot of material has been covered elsewhere this the first article that combines all the different aspects of the new systems into an article that does the platform justice.

Read it here on OsNews

I really think thing are starting to fall in place now and the article demonstrates this by putting all the relevant links into some sort of order

Oh and did i mention that the new OS4 screenshots are exclusive to that article at the moment.

NewsForge has also linked to the article now.

Not surprising how articles that actually have some substance are quickly picked up by the mainstream media.

The requesters are nice however I'd love to see them without the sizing gadget, the huge bottom border, and an option to cancel each of them.  Also, I'd like to see a universal standard taken using the words "Ouch" or "Sorry" doesn't cut the mustard for those trying to work their way around the OS when they can't read english.  Everyone knows what "OK" is... and most know what "Cancel" is.  The other thing I would like to see with the requesters is removing the "zoom" gadget or replacing it with an iconify gadget.

Something I would love to see is the ASL lists give the option of going to parent with the click of the middle mouse button (instead of root).

Those new screenshots of OS4 are reall. One minor detail I might say is that why they are only in that article. Not everyone will read that article. They also belong on the screenshots website. And those screenshots are not showing the end result, it's just for giving an impression.

I don't think you should take the requesters litterally... They are probably mockups of how the requesters will look with some graphics.  I thought the same at first but then figured they are not final but examples.

I strongly disagree!! The messages are fine, they just need to be localised. Why not be different? Did you dislike GURU? Well I mean I know you did not like to get visited by the GURU, but it was more unique than "software failure". :-P

I can confirm that the screenshots are genuine.

They are still only intended to give you an idea about the degree of configurability and flexibility we are introducing into the AmigaOS GUI.

They do not therefore represent the final appearance of OS 4.

from here!!! :-D  :-o  :-D
