Actually I've heard from Amithlon fanatics that Freespace runs good on Amithlon.

Nice price for a nice game - actually it was decent space sims that turned me over to the dark side - I bought my first PC cos I wanted to play Privateer 2 (now there's a game that I would love to see on the Amiga, and like Tombraider, it's not too intensive on the old graphics card and processors)..

hmm.. wonder if Freespace runs under WinUAE
GPF (the famous Blue Screen of Death) honest version :-

The system has become busy or unstable.
Actually, we say \\"system\\" but what we really mean is \\"Windows\\".
If you like, you can wait and see if the \\"system\\" recovers.
It won\\\'t, but it will give yo

Afaik, you either need a PPC or a 3D card to get Freespace to run.  I tried the demo on WinUAE and it didn't want to run...

Nope !! There is a 68k-SW-renderer included.
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

Well there's a delemia then! It's a good price, and the sales would help Hyperion.

This might sound strange coming from me, but give the guys a break.

The Amithlon/AmigaXL problems and the other licensing problems are issues in their own right and should not prevent anyone from buying Freespace or any other software title they happen to publish. After all, by doing so you'd be punishing the software authors at the same time as the publishers. What is more, we don't know for sure who or what is responsible for the Amithlon delay, so I personally wouldn't like to see any boycotts started on that pretext.

If anyone likes the idea of Freespace, don't let the identity of the publishers put you off.

Finally, yes, this 'ere Amithlon fanatic can confirm Freespace runs OK on Amithlon, with the software rendered graphics performing at a very acceptable speed indeed. The only frawback is that AFAIK the software renderer is limited to 8-bit colour only, so the quality of the display is nowhere near as good as that on my Windows version with hardware support.

I would say that H&P have done so much good for the amiga, that I would, if only I had the money, buy the game..
I have enjoyed more than one product from H&P.
Support them, I think that they have kept the amiga alive more than any one else...

Just my opinion..

Actually at 24Euro it sounds like either a "loss leader" or just a clearance(at little or no profit). Considering how little Amiga related titles sell 24Euro is probably what H&P paid to Hyperion:-(

I don't think that H&P paid xxx copies in advance, but that
only actual sales are paid to Hyperion

SW-Render or not, you will *need* somekind of 3D card.
