OS3.9, CyberstormPPC, and ppc.library question
« on: September 26, 2003, 08:41:02 PM »
Something just popped into my head after having a troublesome WarpUP installation last night. Does OS3.9 first time installation (when you install the OS from scratch) secretly put ppc.library in LIBS: directory if it detects a CSPPC accelerator? I know that CSPPC doesn't have ppc.library in boot-rom as BPPC does, however I had trouble installing WarpUP on my A4K with CSPPC last night (it would crash right on boot when it looks like it's just about done loading workbench), much in the same fashion as it does on a BPPC A1200 setup with no BPPCFix installed to disable the rom built-in ppc.library (I've had this setup before so I remember). I will look into LIBS: for a ppc.library file when I get back home from work (just in case it is actually there), but if I don't find it, what could actually be crashing WarpUP and the entire OS on boot?

I have an A4K rev B installed in Mirage 4000 Pro case with Mediator 4000 that came with it and Zorro/PCI busboard, CSPPC with 128MB Ram, No RAM on motherboard other than 2MB chip ram, Voodoo 3 PCI 3000, Terratec 512i, Ethernet card 10/100, FastATA 4000 Mk2, OS3.9-BB2, Blizkick running optimized for single-boot.

Messed setup of ppc/warp picture datatypes?
Wrong termination of ppc.library when Warpup is started. Have you ppc emulation library (ppc.library by Frank Wille) installed - some ppc programs still don't run on it.
Try to create a boot without background picture first.

As I understand it OS3.9 is developed by Haage&partner, who else developed warpup, so I doubt it secretly puts ppc.library in libs:

Try checking your loadwb command in c:
I had the exact same problem and somehow that file had been corrupted. Replacing it made everything work just dandy.

Sincerely,

-Kenneth Straarup.

OK, I've checked for ppc.library and it was not in LIBS:. I've also
discovered that after doing a fresh install of OS3.9 I am sometimes
able to run WarpOS successfully, however only to get a quick crash. I
don't think that my PPC card is bad as I've used it just fine before
installing the motherboard in the Mirage case and before using the new
busboard/mediator. I've also installed the WarpOS picture
datatypes and by viewing JPEGS in Multiview I sometimes get images
loaded and sometimes a crash. :-(

Does anyone have any clues? Perhaps
there's something on the mediator jumpers that needs
setting?

Oh, and may I add this. Before I've installed the A4000 motherboard in Mirage 4000 Pro case with Mediator, that is when it was just a regular A4000 Desktop, the specs were: A4000D/3.1Roms/OS3.9/CSPPC/Picasso IV/1.2GB IDE HD, and the PPC end worked just fine. I was able to load WarpUP with no trouble and also use WarpUP datatypes to load images. This makes me positive that the card itself is functional, however there may be a small Mediator related detail that I'm missing, like a jumper setting or some tweak in mediator or WarpUP settings files.  I would appreciate it if someone with a similar setup provides any hints to a successfull and working setup. :-) Thanks for any help in advance.

I've not got a ppc in my A1200, but I remember reading somewhere that the warpup installation on OS3.9 is a bit flakey. try and download an earlier version.

Yes it is a dodgy picture, but what do you expect from a mobile phone camera!!

Oh yeah and I own an A1200T/060 with Mediator etc and an A1G3SE
