The software company that's not making software wants to loan money to "build" hardware which neither them nor their single licensee has anything to do with.

I hope all the components of the "new Amiga systems" are licensed and dongled too. After all, it's included with the "new Amigas". We wouldn't want any "substandard" graphics cards, harddrives et c., now would we? That could "split the community". Or something.

What a farce.

BTW, the petition is still open. The 50,000th signatory gets a... ummm... bottle of single malt whisky to drown your sorrows with.

I think (this is my own guess) that it is a $50.00 pre-pay which could be used toward purchase of an A1/OS4 (either full system or board/OS4 CD)!

I think the "pre-loaded" thing is that the motherboard is compatible with AmigaOS 4.0 (has the antipiracy-ROM) and is bundled with the "AmigaOS 4.0 installation CD"!!!

I'm going to send my "mail-in form" as soon as posible  :-D
I just need to get my check from the bank :-(

Having a look at the promo page again, the only place where it mentions "systems" is where it describes what you will win.  For 2500 orders, four AmigaOne/OS4 "systems" will be given away.  From Gary's comments, that looks like full blown systems with memory, GFX card, hard drive, cd-rom, monitor, etc.

So .. there colud be some confusion between the qualifying purchase and the prize.

Realy, Amiga Inc should clarify exactly what the "system" prize specs. is as well as the qualifying "AmigaOne/OS4 preloaded" on the web page ASAP rather than by fowarded emails  :-o  :-o

Is this 50$ coupon for a full system - case, hard drive, graphics card, cdrom (or DVDROM), keyboard, mouse - or motherboard + OS 4.0 OEM CD?

I want to buy A1 + OS 4.0, but I don't want to buy a full system like I mentioned above. I can get quite cheap price for perphirals (hard drives, CDROM/DVDROM, cards, keyboard, etc..) and I have enough experience assembling a board into an ATX case - just sell me the (final version of) the board + OS 4.0 CD (and the ROM chip)..

I think I'm not the only one who wants to work this way. Amiga managment - please co-operate with your potential clients. Trying to sell complete boxes won't work well since your target clients knows already how to hook the hardware ..

Well because we (the community) like to be able to fully interprate every syllable of every word of anything they right to 100% accuraccy.

As for this one, it needs a bit of interpretation / clarfication / something. And fixed right on the web page, not in just an distributed news item!

Garry Peak said system with OS on the hard drive (*).. so I guess that's what it is untill they change their minds, or re-clarify.

I'm sure Gary meant that the voucher can only be used when you buy certified hardware plus the OEM version of OS 4 (right now this means an AmigaOne plus OS 4)

It would be nice if Amiga would official clarify it.

I think there are two points here.

One/ is that the coupon is not a discount, rather a downpayment.  Therefore the amount being small is a good thing, and if anything should have been smaller.  Because the smaller the amount, the more people would be willing to risk "non-appearance of product", and if those that paid didn't actually make up the difference and purchase the product, then Amiga Inc would still get tons of cash from people that aren't true believes and should therefore be killed (kidding.. remember the Amiga mag rants against those that wouldn't purchase upgrades to A500s, and yet still had the gall to complain that new software didn't run on their machines).

Two/ is that it is not fair to be misleading as to what that downpayment is for.  In other words it isn't fair to commit people to pay for something they didn't intend to buy.

That being the case, it would be perfectly valid to contact the credit card company and cancel the payment, but at the same time you should inform Amiga Inc of your actions and why.

I also assumed that the coupon was for the bundle, not a complete system, so now that I know I won't be buying one.

Not because I think it's a "bad deal" or a "naughty business practice", but because I want to build my machine to my own specs and budget.

The only thing I think Amiga Inc has done wrong is that they haven't been totally clear about what you are buying.  I don't for one moment believe that this was intentional deception (hence suggesting that cancelled credit card orders are explained).

You will at least want to buy the mainboard with OS4 and memory. I don't see how adding a harddrive in there is something that'll enable someone to pull the prices to the roof either. Don't you people understand that the reason for using PCI, AGP, UDMA100 and PC133 memory is a good thing? How on EARTH can the dealer put expensive parts in there and expect a sale if you as a customer can buy cheaper from someone else? Do you have that little confidence in the dealers who are gonna sell A1G3s? Grow up, people...

But all a buyer really needs from Amiga/Eyetech/Hyperion is the motherboard and a CDROM with the OS on it. Even harddrives vary a lot in terms of size, performance, etc., so buyers want to have a choice here too. Yes, this is why standards are a good thing -- customer choice. It isn't so much that people don't trust dealers, just that they want to choose components for themselves. This is why you start out with a bare motherboard.

It's amazing and sad how these AI "clarifications" raise as many question as they answer.

I only need the M/B and OS4. I have a spare 20Gb HDD, FDD, 256Mb RAM
(yes pc133) and I can reuse my SB sound card. The only thing I really
need at time of purchase is the GFX card. Somehow I don#t think the
MB+OS4+GFX card constitues a "system".

I am not concerned that dealers will put expensive parts in the
machine, all I care about is the fact that I don't NEED most of the
bits they will put in the machine! :-)

I don't think I am being childish, just not buying things I already
have!
