Just a question - I can't seem to get the TAO / Amiga link, how does this news relate to Amiga?

On a Norwegian page (itavisen.no) I saw a post regarding the Sharp SL-5000D , this looks like The Zaurus pda.. But this only runs Qt Embedded and linux, no mention about our dear Amiga.. :-?

Kind of a Newbie question asked by an old amiga user, but since I haven't had a net connection until the last month - I have problems keeping track   :-)

Hi Silentnoise,

Amiga Anywhere (formerly AmigaDE) is built on top of Tao's intent. Anything that affects this base will likely affect anything derived from the base (i.e. Amiga Anywhere).

Regarding the Sharp Zaurus, the Zaurus was always going to use Linux. They were also going to use AmigaDE to expand its software base (java etc..) but in the end they went with Qt instead (I think it was a case of a double booking rather than Qt being better than AmigaDE).

Best Wishes
William

Any Tao press release, is always posted
here no matter how tenuous the link is as
Amigans are desperate for any information.
As I understand it, AmigaDE/Anywhere is
programmed through it's own API so a development
tool for Intent will not have any affect on DE/AA.

IMO Sharp showed the Zaurus with AmigaDE
as a demonstration application, they were never
committed to making the Zaurus an Amiga based
product.

Hi
Amiga DE /AA is a superset of Intent.

Any development tool / software / compiler / linker for Intent will also run on Amiga DE.

However not all Dev. tool / compiler / linker for Amiga DE will run on top of Intent without the presence of Amiga DE.

Sorry koan, gotta correct you there. The API available with Amiga Anywhere is exactly the same as the API available in Intent because it is the same system. Amiga is building some stuff on top and that obviously will have a different API as it won't be available with Intent, but that stuff isn't available publicly yet.
