But are you going to be able to change size of partitions without loosing data?

1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

Same here Kronos. And it was rather negative too. But that is a personal opinion and there is nothing wrong with that. (I mean his posting)

@Kronos

Good lord is that negative!
Yes I think this HDToolBox is pretty neat and much nicer than fdisk any day.

Wayne and I see things entirely different! It's like my view of the 'Amiga' world is seen as a mirror image(reversed that is) of what Wayne see's. That's ok though, to each his own.

It probably is. This sounds like Wayne's viewpoint as of recently

I guess I don't blame Wayne for being a little negative.. It's not like things have been easy for him website wise, sometimes I wonder why he still bothers with it (Must cost a small fortune) (Eh, Wayne, no, please don't stop ! ) getting part of the blame (IIRC Wayne was blamed for his own site being hacked/destroyed)..

Hope his personal problems are eh.. getting better..

Excuse me??

Thats a good looking? am I the only one who thinks that Amiga should license some fonts? at least according to the screenshots - the fonts are nothing short of BUTT UGLY!..

And what about some more color usage? man, the days where you had a pallette of 32 colors out of 4096 are way behind us, why aren't they using more colors?

I'm very pleased that Amiga OS 4 is being written and we finally see some screenshots (dare I say that I wish that some more tech info would be available please?), but unfortunately the GUI simply sucks..

Sorry for the critisism..

Looking good so far ...  :-D

I've missed a few things on the Amiga scene the last four days because my HP PC hung, clobbering a KERNEL~~.DLL file ...  :-x

Cheers

reply to heunique:

It was just a demo of the features, not the show its looks... You can change the colors, fonts to whatever you like, this was just using the standard WB fonts + colors....

Now all we need is a way to resize/move/merge partitions without losing data, à la Partition Magic

Or changing filesystems without losing data :-? ?

Actually, i wouldnt trust the data after that (resizing/merging), I'd rather make a backup and do a complete format, even one lost .icon file would be annoying. Especially if it had a lot of custom settings.

This looks exactly like what i want from a good ui :-) . More options than i know what it is ( but going to try  changing anyway :-)) and none of that special 'waste_of_space' buttons /wizards in partition magic on Ms teletubbie eXPerience.

In the partitioning window i see sfs, pfs and dos  (..?) filesystem :-)

From the other screens i see ofs/ffs/dc-ffs too. wasn't there supposed to be a new ffs or is that sfs?

I like it!

I really miss being able to mess with HD's in the GUI.
I think Amiga is doing the right thing. showing future functionality. I don't really give a rats south end what it looks like now. The issue is it's on the way. OS4 is a go between OS. With OS5 they can make all the fancy  FOO FOO stuff.

By the way I have been sending posts to the folks that run winimages ( Imagemaster RT ) Letting them now the Amiga is still on the way. http://www.crystalpixels.com/cgi-bin/general/viewmsgs.pl?THREAD=NO
The more of us doing this will help get some GREAT software for the new Amiga.

"We don't do Mac software for that very reason - the market has grown too small. " and you want AmigaOS software from them when they wont even support Mac wich is much bigger then Amiga will be in a long time if ever.

But when will they show (by a beta or public demonstration) the important part of any OS ?
When will we see Amiga-apps on-top of ExecSG without the need for an 68k (except booting), or when will we see it for the first time on the A1 ?

Kronos, i think your expecting far too much... Truly the best part about AmigaOS4 is that it actualy exists and is improving.

The second best part about AmigaOS4 is that its running on new hardware - or at least WILL run on new hardware when its done.

Yes, theres a third best thing, and that is, its just the start, its pathing the way for future versions of AmigaOS. From the very start of this project, we were told now to expect to much, already my expectations have been blown. Maybe their too low?

Its not important if AmigaOS4 does not capture the sigh of consumers out side of our niche market, not doubt thats what OS5 aims to do. OS4 is to only satisfy us, not make the hords of linux geeks, MOS geeks or anyother type of geeks drop their jaws in one large gasp... Its only to modernise the OS - which means, they're only trying to please the current community.

Surly OS4 will bring back some people who disearted the Amiga a while ago, but its only to help the current Amiga market keep interested and realise that our OS is getting better, slowly.

It wont happen over night, but it will happen  :-D
