I dont believe BeOS is dead, but alot of BeOS users are looking at or are atleast interested in AmigaOS becaue it looks like it could be their new platform.

The thing is i believe from what ive read and from my own feelings that Be had several problems that Amiga Inc doesnt.

1) Hardware manufactorers. We have many of these and Be hardly new anyone. That is, they found it hard to get their system on any good hardware righ tout of the box. Except the BeBox of course.

2) Software, BeOS started with no software. We already have a lot of software. You all know that.

3) The Name. Be had to create a name for its self, and if did that well within the geek community. However, Amiga has a name of many many people. Including some of which are pretty old and have joined the PC market. However, once marketing starts up and Amiga Inc isin full swing, they will undoubtly become interested and possibly buy one.

So in other words, Amiga Inc isnt starting from scrath. We have the community, we have the software, we have the hardware and we have an execlent OS capable of running as fast of faster then BeOS on the same resources. Amiga Inc has a lot of backing for their project, and with their second income stream (AmigaDE), this will only become stronger with more money put into parterships and more products. :).

We have the community, we have the software, we have the hardware and

"Gentleman....we can rebuild her..." (starts the Six Million Dollar Man music)  :-D

"...we have the technology..." (inserting AmigaDE)

"..she'll be stronger than before..."

 :-P

That is good news if is ture!

But realy this should of been on Amiga.com site.  I don't know about you but waiting 2 weeks more for these pices so they could of gone on the Amiga's own site wouldn't of been such an issue.

Quote from Argo:
"cool, NASA can now replace their aging telemetry computers (last I knew they used Amigas for non-manned space probe telemetry)."

Yes, NASA was using Amigas but, according to a friend of mine who is in a position to know, they replaced the Amigas with Sun machines at the end of August last year.
NASA may still be using the Toaster machine in their TV center, however.

I cannot see what all the fuss is about, whats new?

Transparency, rounded edges, SO WHAT!

Going back 5 years ago with my a4000 tower, picassoIV gfx card i had a nicer looking interface than that....

I'm sorry, but judging by the comments noone has had a hi-spec amiga before, perhaps thats why it went the way it did.. and to claim, 'the Amiga is back', you must have your eyes shut. Sorry, it doesn't cut it for me!
