Interview with Thomas Frieden about AOS4
« on: April 23, 2002, 07:47:58 PM »
A very interesting interview with Thomas Frieden (of Hyperion/AOS4 fame) was posted on amigarulez.org.  It was conducted by Johan "Graak" Forsberg and relays questions/concerns from people on Amigarulez.

Read it here ...

"We are receiving absolutely no cooperation from DCE with respect to the GREX and the old Phase 5 accelerators despite numerous requests on our part. We recently found out that they were instructed by bPlan not to cooperate with the OS 4 development team in any way."

Uh... Oh... Ah... This is no good, better put on your helmets, I can already see armies gathering...  :-?

As an owner of a blizzard 603e and previously a 1220 and a 1230IV, I am very dissapointed in DCE's lack of cooperation.  I believe Hyperion are doing their utmost to futher a great line of computers, what have DCE done in the last couple of years, except feather their own pockets.  I hope either DCE starts helping or hyperion just get around this obstacle. I would hate not to be able to run OS4 on my classic miggy, I won't be able to afford an A1.5G3SE for some time and I have spent hundreds and hundreds upgrading my miggy.

Well JJ your in the same boat with alot of people who trusted DCE. Take a look over on Ann.lu and you will see a ton of ppl flipping the virtual bird at them for this.(on second thought, dont go) Time to dump your DCE HW i think. But then Hyperion are trying to get it working on the board, they said that it will be much more difficult to do without the help/docs though. So all is not lost, it may still run on your system but i'll guess it will be delayed for that board. Still, i wont ever buy from DCE, they have thier heads up thier you know whats.

Not to sound completely brutal to the MorphOS developers... that's probably their plan to get us Amiga users to use MorphOS.  If it is, that's a really sorry state of business tactics.  How many BPPC boards were sold vs the CSPPC?  I'd prolly say either two or even three times more.  If OS4 will not be able to run on the Blizzards, the majority of the BPPC users will turn to MorphOS for native PPC speeds or wait to purchase the A1 and still run Morph on the BPPC.  With the strong arm tactics used by DCE to offer no support for the BPPC boards for OS4 would possibly delay the release of the software buying the MorphOS developers a little more time to get the software completed and bPlan to get the hardware tweaked for shipping.  Man that bites!

With MorphOS being in legal limbo where the first sale of the software violates the Amiga IP this ought to be a very long on going battle unless it's stopped before it starts... too late.

The value of my BPPC just went from 60 to 0 in 1 second flat if I can't run OS4 on it.

Sorry, my meaning was more general, no specific site/forum in mind.  I just don't expect certain "Amiga" users to take some of the comments in the interview too kindly. I'm assuming they will put up a general ruckass. Amiga.org is an oasis in my mind.

Well if DCE wont support AMiGA, then you all know what you must do then..
I think it is lame, to put it mildly, what DCE (bPlan ??)are doing...
Why not just support AMiGA and then, they can sell more hardware. Would that not be the most obvious thing to do

Every time I read feature list I get more excited about this thing. I´m gonna rob a bank if thats necesary fo me to buy an amigaone+os4.

I got a BPPC and I feel sick about DCE. In my opinion they got nothing in contribution to the amiga society. Getting the os4 running on a BPPC would be the best as there are so many BPPC owners.

Excuse me for being specific, i would have to say Amiga Inc is the best thing thats EVER happened to the Amiga/AmigaOS. They've really got their stuff together, power on Amiga Inc!

Hyperion is also great! - nothing against them!

Oh, crap!! I just lost me job and this OS4 milarky looks pretty damned good!!  Tis a shame but I don`t think I`ll be able to afford an AmigaOne for quite some time.  This looks lik really good progress so far.  :-)
