‘Made on Amiga’ Re-launch
« on: April 19, 2002, 09:08:50 AM »
Almost exactly 5 years to the day after its original launch in 1997, the web’s most
comprehensive searchable directory of Amiga made websites is re-launching on 29th April 2002. In the spring of 2001, ‘Made on Amiga’, along with a number of other GonMad / No Original
Thought websites, suffered a major setback when the hosting ISP disappeared due to legal problems in the USA. While other sites were simply migrated, ‘Made on Amiga’ was given a complete overhaul and redesign ....

After 4 months of testing, a number of design iterations, and a web-consultation with ‘Made
on Amiga’ visitors, the new site is finally ready and has never looked better. As of 29th April, ‘Made on Amiga’ will be available directly from www.MadeOnAmiga.com  Until that date a holding page with a countdown will be displayed. You can take a sneak preview of the site by visiting http://sneak.MadeOnAmiga.com
Continued interest in the site since the temporary closure in 2001 leads us to believe that the
re-launch, and the recent news of new Amigas being around the corner, will mean that ‘Made on Amiga’ is set to be more popular than ever. About ‘Made on Amiga’ Made on Amiga began in April 1997 as a simple web page listing exclusively websites which had been created or were maintained on the Amiga family of computers. The list quickly grew, necessitating categorisation. Shortly after that a move was made from a static page to a searchable database. Each site is individually reviewed and categorised. Checks are also made to confirm that the site is in fact made or maintained on an Amiga.
About GonMad / No Original Thought GonMad and No Original Thought are the on-line brands of Dan Gibson. GonMad originally began in 1996 as a personal homepage, but soon grew into a portal to the various GonMad and No Original Thought branded sites of today. Other sites in the family include ‘Buddy Test’, ‘MailFool’, ‘JEDI Census’, ‘Mal Function’, and the extremely popular Cumbrian Dictionary and Cumbrian Translator
(www.babelsheep.com).

Not bad!

The table needs a bit more work (who am I to argue though, even sites like Amiga.org needed some table work), and a few tweaks on refining the graphics.  All in all, excellent work!

(don't blame me though, I'm an html perfectionist  ;-) )

Could you let me know what you've found wrong in the table(s)...

I'm still working on a few little bits and pieces.. and time is marching on... so any bug reports, HTML slip ups etc would be gratefully received - I can't promise to fix them before the 29th, but I'll certainly have a go..

Please email any Made on Amiga bugs or info on design problems to webmaster@MadeOnAmiga.com

Cheers,

Dan

Sure thing Dan... I'll check into it.  I know that the javascript you are using doesn't have a full browser check out The Ultimate JavaScript Client Sniffer to get the page working properly so you don't have to have full control over the layers for every browser.  The main problem with the display was these lines:

... but from what I can tell, it's definately not a problem with your coding.  As for the images, if you are going to use a restricted width table, why not make a good quality image instead of an image floating on top of a table cell background?  Using a good image will make the page a bit more professional looking.  The hard edge bluegreen being cut by the light character shading leaves a lot to be desired for the footer.  The top is fine though.

I'll give it a good go over when I've got more than 5 minutes to pick it appart.

Kent, was that JScript error on the actual MoA site, or just on the countdown/holder page?

The countdown page only has about 9 days life left, and I don't think I've got any problematic JavaScript in the main site (except for one report that a page crashed IE6 on XP!).

However, if you've spotted something on the main site I'll have to get it sorted.

Oh, and regarding the images... they are not the final images. I'm still working on a final logo. The beauty of having the image floating over the bar in the background was that I could swap the logo in and out easily to test new ones... I'll probably do as you suggest as soon as I settle on a final logo - unfortunately I've lost the font I wanted to use!

Let me know what else you find... pick away ;-)

Cheers,

Dan
