Interview with Thendic France and Petro Tyschtschenko
« on: April 18, 2002, 11:43:11 PM »
There is a very interesting article/interview on Amiga-News.de
Check it out ...

1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

Sounds great.

Interesting, I'll need to read the whole article. If they are going with MorphOS there may be a problem.

Speculation of course. I am no lawyer.

As I said in a forum thread:

Bill Buck said it wasn't him posting the e-mail from
fleecy (a nick that IS usually written without
capital letters). Let's hope so, he certainly sounds more
rational here than in that letter (but he did sneak in
that part about "we can't get them to see it our way",
so the ANN post at least reflect part of their view ;-)

The best thing he said was about the legal wranglings
that have been going on: "These things are not solved on
the internet". Right on, mr Buck.

Well it was an interesting read!

Quote
amiga-news.de: Petro, what is your motivation to still busy yourself with the Amiga?

This quote bothers me. They say they are using MorphOS on Pegasus hardware, but still must make the tie to Amiga. And this is Petro!

Mixed feelings here! I always liked Petro, but he is in the MorphOS camp now.  :-?  :-?

My connection went down last thursday - in the days that i was away, did I miss something?

Ok - I just want to clarify that I have got this right.

After the Gateway fiasco -  petro worked with thendic  behind the scenes to move the amiga forward.  Thendic, old Vicorp people -  approached Bplan sometime ago to build PPC hardware, and an eclipsis thing.

When Amiga got reserected - they approached Amiga Inc and were told to buy a license for OS 4 - but didnt want to (why?)

Amiga tell them to go away - they say no we want to join you , but on our terms..... what terms are these?
Que public mudslinging in the last few days- which I seem to have missed.

I'm really very confused -  I thought Amiga.incs origionall plan was that anyone can make Zico spec hardware (which the Pegasos is - but the A1 isnt exactly - but its no biggy, its only missing firewire, which nothing uses!) and OS 4 would run on it. I want to use OS 4 - not MOS, cos OS  4 is official, and untill now I thought Amiga Inc were the more proffesional firm - not mud slinging, or acting like a spoilt brat like that MOS developer..... man this is tearing the community apart. Petro has done good in the past - but all this dirty washing in public is wrong. Just give us OS 4.0 let us have some decent hardware.

Its funny how vicorp wanted to make a setop box and the community said "no" cos its not a real amiga - yet these same guys say mos is. I dont know anymore. I dont care - can someone just qualify if I got this all right?

But... crap -  as for having an Amiga computer A1, Pegasos  whatever........- I really dont care anymore, I'm pist off with all this bullshit.
I only come here for the people.

I gotta get back on my light box.

This is interesting as it may have an impact on a potential case against MorphOS.

Back when Amiga was still part of Gateway in 1999, they planned a QNX kernal based AmigaOS.  Allan Havemose was in charge of that.

Here's a snip from an IRC chat that i've found

UltimateW> kingsmurf asks: Will AmigaOS5 have Arexx? GA

havemose> scripting language has not been decided yet. Arexx has lots of implementation issues (I've seen the source:), so there is more to it than you would expect. I think the real question is powerful scripting, not necessarily AREXX. GA

IRC Chat, May 1999

That only mentions the source of AREXX, but you get my drift.  Looks like there's no chance that MorphOS can claim clean room reverse engineering. :-o

I think Bill Buck could have a future in politics as a spin doctor.  He keeps putting a spin on the email "incident" and "we want to work with Amiga Inc."  but just can't seem to not take a cheap shot at Amiga Inc.

Another interesting spin is that Bill and Rachel were the saviors of Amiga back in Visicorp days and Visicorp fell apart by not following Bill Bucks ideas. I knew some insiders at Visicorp and they had a very different story to tell.  More like Bill and Rachel were the death of Visicorp.

But I'm still confused - Petro has joined them. I respect the guy.... but I dont want MOS 'cos of all the crap they've been spreading - thats tearing the community apart. Furthermore - MOs isnt official. I think it is only right that Amigainc have control over OS 4. What exactly are Thendic and Petro's complaints - "Amiga say we can only use there product if we license it - but we wont, the end user has to"?

Well Apple hardware comes with Mac OS, PC's come with windows - so what is the problem here. They can always sell a Pegasos without Amigs OS bundled to those who dont want it.

Just bloody sort it out guys.

Yeah, the Pegasos is Amiga OS compatible but nobody has licensed it or become a licensed distributor for it. It must be Evil! EEEEVIL I tells ya'll! All hail only licensed distributors and licensed hardware, no matter what their technological and economical merits might be!

What do you mean,  you'll have to dislike him now? Let's all have a "Two Minutes Hate" session against the evil "MorphOS camp" and anyone associated with it! Hate! Hate! Hate! MorphOS is doubleplus-ungood! Petro Tyschtschenko is a heretic and he has deviated from The Cause and chosen another "side"!

I'm not trying to "attack" you, redrumloa, personally. I just generally wish people would realise that there shouldn't be any reason to choose "sides" or "camps". Look at the technology when it's there and pick what you prefer. I don't belong to any camp and I have never used MorphOS (or Amiga OS4 for that matter), so I won't start throwing flames and FUD at the other "camp". I just hope I'll be allowed to buy whatever suits me best.
Maybe it\\\'s still possible to save AmigaOS  :rtfm:......

So sad to see this, when everything seemed to work out really fine... this will split the communicity and i doubt its enough to support both platforms, both Amiga and Pegasos will die.

Then we are all stuck with windoze
