GoldED Discontinued
« on: April 07, 2002, 12:55:45 AM »
From Dietmar Eilbert on the GoldED Web site: "I regret to inform AmigaOS users that all software on this web site is now discontinued (due to lack of time on my side to continue with AmigaOS software development)."

The Intellectual Property (IP) rights are now for sale if anyone would like to continue the work, and the BASIC interpreter will be released under the GPL in the near future (in a nutshell, a GPL is a public domain license).

Just one comment: "public domain license" is a contradiction in terms. Putting something in the public domain means that you give up your copyright, but if you don't hold the copyright you can't give out licenses.
It's no big deal, but I thought it should be made clear.

Is anyone thinking to buy the code? I think it will be a great loss for the Amiga Community to lose such a great editor :-( . I hope someone will try to save it. I would like to give a hand, but I wonder how much will it cost to buy the IP...

Yes, GPL is not a public domain license. Actually GPL doesn't interfere with copyright. The author just allows other people to use his source code and forces them also to share their new code. But the author can keep the copyright of the code or transfer the copyright to other people.
Trust me...                                              I know what I\'m doing
