A4000 Battery & Onboard Fast RAM
« on: September 24, 2003, 12:57:55 PM »
It's eventually happened... my clock is losing hours, sometimes days when switched back on the next day.

So, I'm going to take my A4000 apart this weekend and hack in a lithium battery. I'm going to use the instructions found on Aminet: LithBatt.lha

Has anyone attempted this? I plan to butcher an old PC here at work for the actual battery. Will this be OK?

Next question: Does having Fast RAM on the motherboard slow down the operation of my Amiga? I already have 128Mb on my CyberStorm, should I just leave the Motherboard RAM or get rid of it? It's only 16Mb.

Thanks

I've done the lithbatt thing on my A3000, very simple and nice (and much better than having to worry about leaking again).

Your motherboard fastram wont slow down your system, it's only used after all of your Cyberstorm ram is gone.
Anyway is the only way

@MrZammler

mhhh! not 100% exact.

Some programs, uses the mobo onboard address memory, even if the CS ram has a higher priority.

Anyway, not so important :-)

@Framiga:
Yes, for example my c= bridgeboard refused to work correctly if not fastram is available in the motherboard even thought I had 128MB in the Cyberstorm...

And...my CSPPC refuses to work without crashing the OS if there IS Fast Ram on the motherboard.  :-o

If I remove the motherboard ram (all but the 2MB chip ram simm), the 128MBs on CSPPC work great.
