A Linux-based version of the AmigaDE has been incorporated into the Nokia Mediaterminal.

All right a real world product!

Nokia is a very well know brand name.  So this could mean real and steady income for Amiga Inc. Great news!

Sounds like a nice device too, but its not the Desk Top I'm waiting for.  It seems like TiVo only more.  I wonder how many here have a TiVo or want to get one and what the price of this will be?

I, as my friends can attest, am a TiVO junkie.  While I am VERY interested in this product, it's going to have to be as hackable and expandable as the TiVo for me to really do anything with it.  9 hours is nothing for space.  

The first thing I did with my TiVO -- before I had even received it -- is to order a 40 GB drive for it.  Even fully loaded, the new Nokia Drive can't be more than 10GB total...

We'll see, but I have extrarodinarily high hopes...

I just bought the Phillips DSR6000, which comes with a 40GB drive. This is a DirecTV/Tive combo unit. Its easy to hack to hold up to (2) 160GB drives, however the 120GB is the best choice as Linux won't recognize a drive great than 128 (?) GB. Either way, there are also easy hacks to get your Tivo on the ethernet lan you might have in the house, and also get your Tivo sub. without actually pa.... for it, if you know what I mean.  This thing will be nowhere near as effective as the Tivo.  Its a dumbed down Cleron box with some ATI-Everything type card inside.  Nice start, however I certainly don't see this giving Amiga any real income anytime soon if ever.  For this price, people are going to buy an Xbox or PS2/3, tons more functionality.

I don't think we should underestimate the power of Nokia. Atleast here in Europe it seems that Nokia can't do anything wrong, they've even got the loyal Swedes to dump their native Ericsson mobiles for a Finish Nokia. Nokia seems to get everything they do right. Let's hope they continue with that now.

Hey now!  Not as nifty as if it was going to hit the American market, but you take your good news when and where it comes!  And Nokia is a REALLY big name internationally, it not in the STB market over here.  This is the kind of PVR I'd like to own.  Just from the description here, it sounds like something to put Micro$loth's Ultimate TV box to shame.  If they bring it Stateside, I hope it won't have the same user-monitoring capability as TiVo, which is a big reason I wouldn't want that service.  Geez, it's almost as if Bill and Co. over in Snoqualmie are actually gonna pull this thing off, huh?

Hey, I have that same model of DirecTV/Tivo combo box.  Where can I find the information on hacking it???    8-)

Hey Wayne, I just read on the spec sheet that it's a 40gig drive, not 10.

Anyways, what's really important about this announcment is that Amiga have their foot in the door at Nokia.  Would anyone be surprised if future cell phones come equiped with AmigaDE?  That's where the money is, isn't it?  So regardless of what the MediaTerminal does in the market, I think Amiga is in a good position to expand and grow.  This is very good news indeed.
