Failed Serial ports
« on: September 23, 2003, 09:22:30 AM »
I just solved a problem on my amiga, on all my amigas my serial ports failed especially when I tried to run a terminal program...it was my ps. Never seen this problem before as I would guess that a faulty ps the amiga would not boot at all.

Are you sure it was just the serial ports? If the serial ports werent working because of the power supply, that leads me to believe the -12V line wasn't working. If the -12V line isn't applied, the Amiga will still boot, but the serial port and the paula audio will stop working properly.

My serial port has stopped working on my A500+

I was able to share files between my Amiga and PC without any problems, then all of a sudden they couldnt talk to each other.

Using Coloanto's AmigaExplorer, all that gets sent to the PC is garbage.

Do you think that my PSU could be failing? How can I test it?

i would check cables and terminal settings, to check ps get a known working ps...I just ####umed they would rarely fail. Mine did fail on this rare occasion :-)

I have checked the serial cable over and over again. Also tried different serial ports on my PC and another PC.

It has to be on my Amiga side. Other packages also dont work. (TwinExpress)

try with anotheramiga, they are a dime a dozen. If its ok the serial should work...if not need to have a500+ looked at hence go to local users group
