scandoubleur for my miga
« on: September 22, 2003, 12:01:06 PM »
Hi all,
I am just fed up to switch between vga to 1084 when playing whdload installed games so I decided to go for a scandoubleur but which one ? I know their quality are not the same.
My config is A1200T+PPC+BVPPC+CV64/3D+amigaos3.9

@lionstorm,

Yeah, i am in the same position as you. I have to keep switching between montior and tv when playing games (whd). Anyone know the prices and the difference between external and internal. And where do they get plugged into? I am looking for a cheap one that will be enough to display games. Anyone?

Thanks,

I looked at it but this looks confusing with no idea about quality. Anyway I guess an internal one is better than an external because you convert the native signal and not the signal going out from the RGB. Scan magic looks like a good product www.relec.ch but I still dont know if I need 2 entries on my VGA to be able to display the signal from my gfx card and the signal from the native RGB.

seem like softhut.com came out with a new scandoubler/flickerfixer, toast scan or something like that. iam using an apollo sd/ff don't really like it that well, but on the other hand my 1200 may have timming faults causing my minor problem.

Interesting.

I know that an external sd/ff would be lower quality (hence the price) then the internal one, but it should be okay for playing whd games (pal and ntsc) on my SVGA montior shouldn't it?

I know where i would plug my external sd/ff (in the RGB socket), but where would i plug the internal ss/ff. Also what else do i need to play them old games on my SVGA monitor? I know i need to get a monitor switcher box, where and what are the prices? Anything else?

Thanks,

I need one of these myself but prefer the external one because it would work on all my amigas and the internal has a socket that fits over one of the chips ,gayle i think.i think the interanal is a1200 only?

Myself i took a cheap option and bought a secondhand phillips 8333 mk2 monitor 2 monitors do take up space but it was cheap to do it this way until i get one . :-)
I once had an amigaone xe but sold it .

The sd/ff fits over the gayle chip? Oh no! I think that my power flyer currently sits on it. I think any way, not sure. I own a Power Flyer MK 2 gold edition (i think). Can anyone confirm this? Look as though i will be getting a external sd/ff.

Yeah, the internal ScanMagic and PowerFlyer 1200 don't get along nicely. Why? Well, the PowerFlyer clip-on module goes over Gayle and ScanMagic's goes over Alice, but the PowerFlyer's Gayle module is too wide and cannot leave enough room for the Alice ScanMagic's module to clip on...simply not enough room. :-(

I have an External Eyetech EZ-VGA Plus scandoubler/flickerfixer. Once I set it up I find I get an good picture.

Two things I have noticed though;

1. It gets very hot.
2. If you use an interlace screen and something scrolls up or down the screen ( text in Scala for example ) you still get some strange effects.

Bought it a few years back, dont know if they still sell the same sort.

Lots of Q's for you...

Do the internal ones work on and fit in the 4000 desktop?

Which chip does it fit over exactly (Alice?)?  And does it have any variations (like Ramsey) that i need to be aware of?

And where is that chip roughly?  Would an internal CDROM get in the way (they do squeeze in tight!)?

Many thanks!

Martyn.

So what you are trying to tell me is, that it would indeed be IMPOSSIBLE to fit an external sd/ff in my A1200T due to space taken up by the power flyer - is there nothing else i can do, like modify the board or something? Looks as though its external sd/ff for me then. How much as these (the cheapest). Thanks for the replies by the way.

You have CV64/3d.  This had a flicker fixer available for it.  I have this board too, but b/c it is slower than my CV64 i have not it and the  the flicker fixer much, but it worked pretty good for PAL.  i think you are better off going for this, unless you use BVPPC, in which case why do you have the CV64/3d installed?
