Modern A520 Replacement?
« on: May 31, 2009, 07:08:58 AM »
Hi All,

I was looking to mod my A520 to output S-Video so I get a better picture on my TV set, and while I was searching for the pin-outs for S-Video, I came across the following product:

http://www.gatorcade.com/rgbconverter.html

Looking at it, it looks like it might be a modern replacement for the aging A520 modulator. It is made to take RGB input from arcade games , and allows you to hook it up to TVs using S-Video and composite, and the photos also show component output.

The FAQ page is link incorrectly on the page, so I link it here:

http://www.gatorcade.com/rgbtableofcontents.html

I know the 1 volt RGB signal it requires fits in ok with the Amiga, as it puts out 1-volt (0.7 volt on RGB plus 0.3 volt (according to the mod I'm working from: http://members.iinet.net.au/~davem2/overclock/a520.html ) So that's ok. I don't know if the Amiga uses 0 volt as black, as the FAQ says the JROK unit requires.

Does anyone here know whether this would be suitable to hook up to the Amiga's analogue RGB out? It might be nice to have component out form the old Miggy.

Thanks,

tiffers

Hi tiffers,

Don't get it, I had the component version (even nicely hacked into an A520 case) and could not get a decent image from any of my Amigas, despite spending several evenings trying. There's another device out there called the Neobitz which is reputed to work well... maybe someone here has tried the component version and can comment.
