Blizzard PPC Update
« on: September 18, 2003, 04:15:20 PM »
Hi Dudes

I have a Blizzppc 040@33 PPC@266 with the scsi interface, made by Phase 5.

Since there is no comfirmation that Os4 is going to run on the BlizzardPPC and I really  need more procesor power (the 98% of the soft available for amiga is 680X0 based) I´m thinking on make a change for a 060 PPC.

My point is that I have heard many many times that the NEW PPC boards, the DCE made, go broke down after aprox. a year a useage. That is preventing me to get the 060 PPC scsi.

What do you think about this?

Ops! My setup is Mediator, voodoo 3, 128 Fast, SCSI etc etc

The most common reason why these DCE made PPC boards fail rather quickly compared to Phase 5 models is heat. The fan that goes over the PPC heatsink was of very poor quality and usually it either completely failed or did not produce enough cooling (it's a 5V fan). By simply replacing this fan with a better one (a quality 12V fan from Startech or Sunon), there shouldn't be any problems.

Still, back to your original query...yes, an 060 is very nice to have. I have a spare Blizzard 1260T model (running very cool) with a true 68060 60Mhz chip clocked at 66Mhz. If you want, we can trade with me adding some extra cash. Let me know if interested.  :-)

yes both p5 and dce boards are crap , you should always add an extra or a better/bigger fan , most f them old ones run to slow! ..find one with bigger rpm and/or add one ontop of the cooling rib on both ppc and 68k cpu!.

thats my tip anyway...i have wasted so much money on theese cards...its my 4th card now... so go figure.

cheers

Hi

It´s sad that Os4 will not run on BPPC,almost Hyperion didnt say nothing oficially.

Im in the same situation.

Your PPC at 266 Mhz with petunia will outstand any phisical 68060.

Cheers

I hope that Os4 will run on the Blizz PPC, if Hyperion had said something I will not be thinking on changing the PPC for a 060 card.

Os4 in my 266 PCC would rock, and since there is a lot of 1200 PPC cards floating just out there, more than A4k ones, Os4 will sell a lot of copies if it´s finally released for Bppc.

I´m getting an One next month, but Os4 for Bppc will help to keep our beloved A1200 running a little more time.

This machine had been with me during the past 10 years, and yes, it´s a frankenstein machine, but this machine has battled a lot with me,works like a charm, and, I love it. It´s an AMiGA, my amiga for instace.

As I said, I´m getting One, but I LOVE my "classic" amiga, and I will keep it here and running when One Os4 arrives.

That´s why I want Os4 for my little 1200.

:hammer:Os4 Now!:hammer:
