Gallery back online
« on: May 23, 2009, 02:57:31 AM »
Thanks to Karlos, the image gallery is now back online with all the data and images from the old site.

Caveats:

Old Amiga Events images
Because the image gallery represents so much hard drive space (over 1/2 our allotted space on the server), I (Wayne) made the conscious choice not to import the images from the old Amiga events at this time.   They are still backed up and can be restored later, but right now we thought it best to concentrate on the other images.

Orphaned images were not imported.
These include images where the user account no longer exists under vBulletin, or where the image was never attributed to a user.

For some reason we can not yet understand, There are absolutely no user comments on photos anywhere in the database since 2004.
The database has NOT been changed, or altered in any way since the transition to vBulletin.  There was just something that happened 5 years ago (maybe an upgrade) which changed where myalbum (the module) stored said comments and neither Karlos nor I have been able to find them as of yet.  When / if we do, we'll upload them later.

--------
Everyone.  Take a moment to thank Karlos for the incredible work he's done for the site.  I know I can't possibly thank him enough, so I need your help.

Thankyou Karlos, Wayne, and anybody else who had a hand in this. In less than a week after transition to an alien format. God damn, that's some good work.

Cue twilight zone soundtrack :)

To add to the caveat list, image ranking statistics couldn't readily be imported. If, after everything else, we figure out where the missing comments went, then I'll see what can be done about that.

Is that when the toes stick together? I've heard a clean sock can get "dirty" in a minute and thirty seconds.

I hope they're not Kees' Amiga socks!

Thanks Wayne and Karlos, although it's sad to see those pics of Dave in his Hawaiian shirts gone.

No tips required. I would have missed the gallery as much as the next guy.

-edit-

Actually, if anybody does want to give a tip, then perhaps a donation to OCA (see sig) or feed the amiga.org kitty

-/edit-

Just a note to make. It seems the new gallery allows you to edit your old content, which is a pretty nice feature.

However, I would ask that people don't until we've had a chance to track down the missing comments. The reason is that the only connection between the old gallery and the new is in the physical name of the image file. If that changes, we won't be able to match up any of the missing comments.

I'd like this feature too. (If not, I suppose we could just overwrite images with new ones using "edit" - but "delete" would be better.)
