A4000 Mobo In Trouble!!!
« on: May 23, 2009, 01:13:13 AM »
I just received my AmigaKit order today, which had my new ATX PSU adapter.  So, I immediately pulled out my spare A4000 mobo when I noticed some contamination near where the battery used to be.  I removed the battery about 6 months ago when I noticed it had some leaking around the ends, but it appear not to have gotten to the board.  Well, I guess I was wrong.  I cleaned it off with some PCB board cleaner as good as I could, but the tracks and leads look like they have been melted away some.  The capacitor on C192 looks to have leaked as well, and could be the culprit for this damage.  I did hook the board up which appeared to start, but I could not get an image on the monitor.  I was using a SSFF external unit in which the light did go to green which meant it was receiving a signal.

Edit - My image is not showing up here, sorry.

Here is a link to see it:

Not sure what to ask.  Any suggestions.

That board looks quite bad (from the photo). Those two capacitors could be causing problems if they have leaked. But then again your black screen would be a misconfiguration issue. Double-check all jumper settings. If you have an accelerator board, those need to be setup right. You don't need to plug in the daughter board to boot, however it's best you do so to eliminate any possible issues.

@da9000

It does look bad.  The leak has exposed some traces and heavily contaminated some chip leads.  I tested originally with two A4000 boards (just a A3640 accelerator and 1 stick of memory, no daughter board),  one came up and the other did not.

At this point I will remove all the components from the affected area and do a good cleaning and examine for any broken traces and repair as needed.  I will replace the capacitors and any other component that needs it.

Time is a killer.......
