pc keyboard on amiga using Lyra1200?

Hi guys,

I finally got PC-2-Amiga ps/2 mouse and keyboard adapters from Vesalia But have some problems with keyboard.

As my father is mainly using Amiga as DTP machine, typing a lot & printing stuff, I decided to send you explanation.

Please see attached image, there I explained all what I mean.

The lyra2 is compatible with the MMkeyboard software.  You can find this at http://www.geit.de/deu_mmkeyboard.html. Install version 2.21
This software will also install some keymaps for windows pc keyboards.

After you have done this, goto input prefs and select the right keymap (there are called "win_usa" or "win_gb" etc etc).

After you have saved your input prefs settings, goto http://www.icomp.de/l2/ and look there how to configure the lyra2 to your likings.

Also - can I have problems IF keyboard adapter's chip hole didn`t FIT well on real Amiga chip for keyboard? When I opened my case, I found that there were several wires wired over the chip, so I could connect Amiga4000 keyboard [on my towered A1200]... So I removed wires and I suppose because of wires weight - it didn`t fit well. Can this be the case of non working Tab key?

That is an American layout keyboard and you're selecting British?

It does not matter. I tried every key settings - none of them make TAB key work

Well I have a lyra2 4000 myself (it connects to the a4000 keyboard port), but I had the same problem with the  \ key. I dind't test the TAB key before installing the Win_usa keymap.
When I used the Win_Usa keymap all my keys were recognised.
However the lyra2 has some default settings, but you can change this.

For Example : The Amiga keyboard has the two braces [ and ] in the top left corner of the numeric keypad, therefore Lyra 2 always maps the NumLock key the the opening brace [. Right next to the NumLock key, the regular PC keyboard has the slash or divide key. By pressing F5 in configuration mode, you toggle between two choices: Either the divide key transfers a closing brace ] to the Amiga, or it transfers the keycode for the forward slash (divide key) to the Amiga.

You can configure this when pressing LShift + pause.

Also by installing the mmkeyboard software, you can make use of the multimedia keys of your keyboard.

Edit: You must test the TAB key in a texteditor, input prefs won't do anything when you press it.

Thank you for your tips! I guess problem could be fixed by installing this software http://www.icomp.de/l2 and Win_Usa.keymap. I didn`t check but I guess there is this keymap to install in Storage [afaik] directory. Also I will check other PC keyboard than that one I've bought. As I am not in my town now I will check it and let you know when test it all Thank you a lot!

Just install version 2.21 of mmkeyboard. You can find this at http://www.geit.de/deu_mmkeyboard.html
This will also install the win_usa keymap in devs:keymaps. By using this keymap (select it in input prefs), the \ and TAB-keys will work again.
And as a bonus you can make use of the multimedia keys.

To find out how to configure the lyra2 itself, goto http://www.icomp.de/l2. This page describes how to go into config mode and change some settings.
Another example: the default setting of the lyra2 uses the ALT-keys as L-Amiga and R-Amiga. In the configuration mode you can make the lyra2
use the windows keys as L-Amiga and R-Amiga.
