New Posts page
« on: May 17, 2009, 09:36:07 AM »
Sorry to add to the list of requests. This is a minor inconvenience really. The "New Posts" link doesn't seem to work unless you're logged in. If you're not logged in, you get a message saying that there have been no new posts. If you log in and go back to that page, then the new posts appear.

How does this page work? I thought I read that it shows the posts made in the last 24 hours. If so, why does it matter if you're not logged on?
Code: [Select]
10  IT\'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
20  FOR C = 1 TO 2
30     DA-NA-NAAAA-NAAAA DA-NA-NA-NA-NAAAA
40     DA-NA-NAAAA-NAAAA DA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NAAAAA
50  NEXT C
60  NA-NA-NAAAA
70  NA-NA NA-NA-NA-NA-NAAAA NAAA-NAAAAAAAAAAA
80  GOTO 10

Does that mean it's not configurable? :(

That's the other one. In quick links there is a link called 'Today's Posts' that lists all the activity for the past 24hrs.

'New Posts' is just the new ones since your own last login.

I hope that makes it clearer.

Yep

http://www.amiga.org/forums/search.php?do=getdaily

That's the URL you need to bookmark.

It should work even f you are logged out.

Hmm.... Maybe a little button could be put on the site so people can click it even when logged out.

Not essential though.

Just tried it and it does.

My personal preference would be for the big logo at the top of the page and the home button to go to the daily posts page. That would make the site function more like the old one. However, it's not significantly less convenient to re-select the bookmark or choose it from the Quick Links menu :)
Code: [Select]
10  IT\'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
20  FOR C = 1 TO 2
30     DA-NA-NAAAA-NAAAA DA-NA-NA-NA-NAAAA

60  NA-NA-NAAAA
70  NA-NA NA-NA-NA-NA-NAAAA NAAA-NAAAAAAAAAAA
80  GOTO 10

"New Posts" shows posts that have been made since YOU last visited, which would -- hopefully -- obviously require a login to know when you last visited.

"Todays Posts" (under Quick Links) shows the posts from the last 24 hours, but unless I can figure out how to make it anonymously accessible, also requires a login.

I know.  Coming from an 8 year old Xoops package to a forums package which encourages you to actually login and participate is WEIRD (/me wishes I had the creepy font for WEIRD) but it's one of the many things you just have to get used to.

It's not that. It's just that I don't want people to know how often I actually check for new posts ;)

Aha!  :-)

Then in your profile, you could always set yourself to be "invisible"..

Another cool feature :) I'll consider it if I think people might start [strike]thinking[/strike] realising I'm a bit sad ;)

Edit - this forum needs the strike tags ;)
