When Commodore-Amiga were last together, they were with ESCOM, who went into bankruptcy itself. After that, Commodore and Amiga went their separate ways, to different owners.

But, after their own multiple changes of hand, Commodore steadily rises. There are apparently two co-owners of the Commodore brand. And there are available custom gaming machines under the Commodore logo. Intel-based. (this won't be much of a stretch, considering in the past there was the PC-only "Commodore Select" computers).

If Amiga Inc. were to partner with Commodore...new Commodore-Amiga machines might still be possible. Amiga just wouldn't have a parent company. It's even not impossible that a Commodore-Amiga 6000 happen--if they were to go the way of custom chipsets, or just a continuation of what was.

What would you think if the two partnered?

With all due respect, Amiga Inc proved to deceitful, untrustworthy.  Getting involved with such party means lots of risk, besides what would be the point of the new Amiga machines?  (see Sam/A1 boards, the are good enough, not to forget pegasos - I'm not sure if all 3 have sold enough machines?).

forget about custom chipsets. custom chipset computers are game consoles now, and you need to be big, really big (Sony or Microsoft) to go into that arena. Developing custom chipset is costly, riskly and even the greater problem is, getting software companies to produce stuff for your platform. Just forget about it.

amiga inc is a pathetic existance devoted to making lamer apps for handheld devices. Their only interest in the classic amiga is to rip off as much as they can from kickstart/software licences. Commodore is just a pc rebranding company set up to rip off lamers who pay triple prices for their commodore branded gaming rigs.

If neither company has any capital, a partnership would be great in that it would certainly lead to a bankrupt Commodore Amiga (AGAIN), thereby freeing up the trademarks for someone else to buy.  So, there is still hope?

Very bad idea right now. Today's incarnation of Commodore(s) is very off the scale regards to Amiga Inc.

The current overall market trend and preferences for hardware is very much upmarket: high performance components. This is thanks to the ever-booming popularity of high-quality computer gaming these days and also computers are more available than never before. And this constrains making custom chipsets or any other parts (indirectly refering to countzero's post).

So far, even the moderately successful tech companies wouldn't make custom parts from quasi-scratch these days. I think the only convincing way to make custom parts for them (Amiga Inc. or any tech companies with similar status to Amiga Inc.) is to make a great use of relatively old hardware resources vis-a-vis respecting today's standard.

As Amiga and other similar companies is doing very slow, here's one problem with the majority of computer consumers right now: they have a relatively narrow view on computers, whether they be preferring high-end products or something that is darn familiar.

A bit of scraping the web revealed that the trademark is owned by these guys now.

But those thinking that they might have any interest whatsoever in the Amiga are deluding themselves.

Neither Amiga, Inc. (with respect to Amiga-related products) nor Commodore create new products. They both simply repackage products created by other companies. So, best case, you'd get an Intel PC with a silly C=/boing ball logo capable of running Amiga Anywhere.
