Returning to Amiga
« on: April 18, 2009, 08:10:36 AM »
Hello everyone!

I want to introduce myself. I was an Amiga user since late 80s until 1997 or 98 when I was absorbed by the evil MS-Win world... (blame my job and some games like Blood and Red Alert). Now I'm coming back to Amiga.

I've been following the forums on this site for quite some time, but it wasn't until now that I decided to register and post.

Back in the day I started with a 500 and then a 1200. I liked programming in AMOS (there's a very simple game I made in Aminet, in game/jump called FlashFlood). I still like programming (hopefully I'm better now ;-) ) and I'm looking forward to see how's programming for 3.9 / 4.0. I was using WinUAE for a while, but as good as it is, it only made me want to have a real Amiga even more.

I still have my computers, never sold them, and now thanks to Dragster (who's a regular user here and a personal friend of mine) I rescued a mistreated 4000D that I'm slowly and sometimes painfully bringing back to life. That's the machine I intend to make my main Amiga system. Wish me luck :-)

Well, nothing more for now... glad to be here, see you everyone!!

Hello again.  I think there is a need to somehow celebrate 7000 users coming this very year.  A meeting/party maybe? I think I can arrange a cheap one, for sure (as I come from a 4th World's country - Poland you know :-) :-))

Why not mentioning MorphOS here, too? It turns out that I myself am about to eventually become a MorphOS user...

What do you mean by that? :-)
Was: Mac Mini PPC running MorphOS 2.4
Now: Amiga Forever 2010 with AmiKit and AmigaSYS
Not used: Icaros Desktop 1.2 (reason: no wifi)
Planned soon: an OS4 system
Shortly then: a MOS notebook (wifi is a must-have)

Honeslty, I don't think that would be an advantage... it is *literally* a very simple game, actually is just a remake of an old C64 game from Ahoy! magazine...

@everyone
Thanks for your welcome! Surely I'll be checking MorphOS. I tried AROS some time ago but now I'm seeing that it even self-compiles... I think I'll give it another try...

About the SAM, I've been reading about it and the new AmigaOS 4.1. I hope by year's end I'll have the money to buy one.

See ya!!

@Efrenmgp

Hey, nice to see your first post here. I'm so glad.

@All

In a few days Efren will have his Amiga back to life and he will be able to do a lot of things with it since it's a damn good machine. Here's what he's coming back with:

Commodore A4000D 16 MB ram on mobo.
Phase 5 CSPPC 060@50, 604e@233, UWSCSI. 128 MB RAM.
Picasso IV gfx board.
Xsurf ethernet.
Deneb USB

Amiga OS 3.9, Amiga OS 4.0 and MorphOS Powerup.

What a comeback!

Keep those posts coming Ef!

Cheers

That's a classy classic setup.

@efrenmgp

Welcome. Sounds like you've already got quite a nice machine. You'll still like the SAM when you get round to buying one.

Enjoy.
