A real "best man" would talk him out of marrying of course!   lol

Seriously, it's just more or less a tradition of honour thing. Standing next to them at the wedding shows you support the notion of him marrying whomever. And typical that you make at least one toast during the reception to the bride & groom, a ditty about happiness, the future, blah blah blah. Oh yeah, almost forgot: you're to keep hold of his ring too, until called upon by the priest, pastor, judge, etc.

Also traditional to make a few cracks about the lucky couple in front of their families and friends. Talk about what a dog he really is, how many people he's slept with, illegitimate children, social diseases, etc, That usually goes over real well    :lol:

That's what I thought. Am I supposed to organise a stag night? I don't think I could bring myself to book the stripper :lol:

Hehe, I was best men twice, first for my sister, second for one of my best friends. In essence, you only have to sign.

LOL! Yep... I'm aware of your orientation  :-)   Nobody said it had to be a female stripper, now did they?  I'd like to be a fly on the wall to see the expressions if you booked a male stripper... LOL!

On a related note, there was a time where I was invited to be a best man once(not saying I'm a total angel), but after I saw how he conducted himself at his bachelors party with a stripper, that helped make up my mind and ended up declining. Him and his wife predictably split up a few years later. Surprise! (not)

I think the best man would normally be on hand to organise things for the wedding as well. I think there are times when the couple and family would really like to be able to delegate some tasks, and it may be good if you are on hand to take up the slack. For example, you may be able to offer the service of a 'mail merge' for generating the wedding invitations, or getting them all posted, phoning around for quotes and details on wedding cars, etc.

I believe the buck's party is also usually up to you to organise. I thnink a buck's party really doesn't have to be sexual or drunken in character. I think it should be catered to suit the groom. No reason for it to be inappropriate or embarrassing to the people involved. Of course some people really like it tawdry. I would take the lead from the groom on that.
Good good study, day day up!

Funnily enough I have just returned from a Stag do in Bratislava... I'm no fan of Slovakia, but the beer and food was cheap, the weather was good and there was plenty of guns and strippers to keep the Stag happy... I never want to be a best man, and I never want to have a Stag do :-)

You will be required to get the stag to the wedding on time and give an amusing speech, other duties will be assigned to you as per the wishes of the Stag.

@tone007,

 What are the qualifications of "worst man"? Did you do the bride or a mother-in-law?  :lol:
