Does anyone own a Multistart II?
« on: April 02, 2009, 05:16:08 PM »
I got ahold of one of these...brand new old stock. Nice looking little rom switcher. The manual says it is compatible with all 500's, Amiga 2000 and Amiga 600.

All the manual speaks of is pairing a 1.3 rom and 2.0 rom on the board. This is most likely due to the fact that at the time of the Multistart II release, v2.0 was the latest kickstart.

I plan on installing this into an Amiga 600 that is currently on it's journey from the UK to the USA (crosses fingers) and I was wondering of two things:

1.> Does anyone know if this works with a 3.1 rom? If not, I guess it can't hurt to try.

2.> I have one 3.1 kickstart rom (40.63) that was pulled from an A2000. I tested the rom in an A500 and it worked fine. Will this rom work on the A600? I am just asking because while browsing Amigakit I saw they sell a 3.1 rom for A500/A2000, and then one for A600 in a separate section. Are they not one in the same chip?

1.  I think it will.  I don't see how trying it can do harm.

2.  For any rom revision, I thought that there was one version (pin-out) for 16-bit motherboards (500,600, & 2000) and maybe several versions depending upon which 32-bit motherboard was used. (I think there were at least 2 different rom pin-outs for the 3000 alone).

IIRC, the 3.1 roms have code for the PCMCIA and IDE  by default.
