Melody Z2
« on: March 29, 2009, 05:55:04 PM »
Hi to all,

I just bought a used Melody Z2, does anybody have the manual to send me?
I would like to know something about for 4 jacks! I think 2 are used for input from Paula and 2 for output. Right now I do not have the cables (I could make some tests) so I ask! :-)
I also do not have the backplate (I will bore a standard one): can the backplate "touch" the jacks? Or do I have to apply some insulating tape.

Is the Melody Z2 a good soundcard? I see there is very few info about it... :-o

Thanx to all

Kato Development's site. There is docs for the Melody1200 but all that is available for the Melody Z2 is just a spec. sheet I am afraid. Perhaps an email?

The Big Book of Hardware came up witch zilch in the way of documentation as well.

Before posting here, I have looked around internet but nothing! :(
I was hoping for a scan... anyway I found some cables and I tried: as I imagined 2 jack are for input and 2 for output.
I try to ask directly to Kato...

The pics show two pin headers on it.  What were they for?  Anyone know?

I do not know!
I noticed from Amiga HW Database that there at least are two versions. Mine is 1.2 and the pins are closed the same way as in the photo... apart this two series of pins there are also two expansion slots!!! These cards seems better than what they are! :-o
I have to find a plate and decent cables then I test it! :-)

from the same page:

"expansion bus for the sampler module with high speed serial port in development"

That explains the smaller port on the 1.3, but the two long headers look like they could be used withHard Drives or something.  Maybe a raw recording setup like the Video Toaster had?!?!?  I doubt it but cool idea non the less...

I haven't played much with mine yet, but it seems to be a decent card. You're right about the jacks, one input (presumably for Paula), and an output. Sound quality is excellent, only downside is (AFAIK) the DSP only decodes MP2. Any attempt to decode MP3 produces garbled sound.
