DeluxePaint animation conversion problems
« on: March 28, 2009, 06:55:35 PM »
Hi all. Got a slightly annoying problem with an animation I'm making for a member on YouTube who asked me to make an introduction animation for his videos which are railroad themed.

I've produced a very nice 300 frame animation in Deluxe Paint 4, and I use the PD program anim2mpegB to then convert it into an MPG file which works beautifully on the PC (studio12 and movie maker) since my friend is limited to WMV.

My problem is in converting the DPaint anim5 into MPG. The program leaves ugly lines occasionally in the process. Any way to eliminate that, or is there a better converter?

Absolutely.

You can make much better .mpg1 by using only "I" frames, which I don't think anim2mpegB allows by choice.

Also, some converters are picky with dimensions being even multiples of 16, iirc, and produce garbage if not an even multiple. You might check your source files.

Added:Just checked the easy_mpeg doc.

NOTE:  HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL RESOLUTIONS MUST ALWAYS BE
MULTIPLES OF 16 BECAUSE OF THE WAY THAT THE MPEG PROCESS
ENCODES INFORMATION.  IF THE RESOLUTION IS NOT A MULT.
OF 16, IT'S NOT FATAL, THE ENCODER WILL JUST TRUNCATE
                  PORTIONS OF THE FRAME.

Thanks. I'm not doing anything radical, just a straight DPaint HiRes Laced using the default palette.

Its not truncating, just the odd lines that appear infrequently.

I'll give it easy mpeg a try though.

I used anim2MpegS which is the Stanford version, and after figuring out that I had to add Split and YUVS drawers, it converted very nicely. Here's the results.
