Emulatioin in WB?
« on: March 28, 2009, 04:02:48 PM »
I was thinking a bit and then I coulden't recall that I ever have stubbmled upon a emulator that runs under Workbench, So my questions is is there any Emulators for other systems like C64 (or older or any system) etc that run on a Amiga, and if there is it would be funt to know for example what is possible to Emulate on a A500, A1200, A4000 etc

So if anyone got time feel free to drop a line here :)

There are loads of emulators for the Amiga, in the early nineties the Amiga was probably the best machine for emulating others on.

For starters have a look here :- http://aminet.net/misc/emu

Nes runs great (in some cases) on basic 1200.

AmiGameBoy and AmiMasterGear are coded in assembly and vey fast, you should able to get full speed on a stock A1200.

It would be great if this was true, but unfortunately you need at least an 030 to get a playable speed from AmiMasterGear. On a stock A1200 or CD32, even with Fast RAM, games are pretty much unplayable and run very slowly. I haven't tried AmiGameBoy though, maybe it runs a little faster.
A1200 030@28Mhz/2MB+32MB/RTC/KS3.1/IDE-CF+4GB/4-Way Clockport Expander/IndivisionAGA/PCMCIA NIC
A1200 020@14Mhz/2MB+8MB/FPU/RTC/KS3.0/IDE-CF+2GB/S-Video
CD32 020@14Mhz/2MB+8MB/RTC/KS3.1/IDE-CF+4GB
A600 030@30Mhz/2MB+64MB/RTC/IDE-CF+4GB/Subway USB/S-Video/PCMCIA NIC/USB Numeric Keypad+Hub+Mouse+Control Pad
A500 000@7Mhz/512kB+512kB/ROM Switcher/KS3.1+1.3/S-Video

Get AmigaOS

The Z80 alike CPU in the GameBoy is very similar to the x86 CPUs (same endianess as well), unlike the 680x0, which need more overheat to emulate it. That's why it is very easy and fast to emulate it on Intel CPUs. Back in 1993 I had an Sinclair emulator which worked pretty well on TurboXT (8MHz).
But there are some fast Z80 emulators for 68K as well. The Sinclar ZX emulator - Speculator shows speeds on unaccelerated A500 of 33% percent from the real Spectrum, which is I can say impressive. On unexpanded A1200 it flies. The ZXAM emulator is also very cool and not much resource demanding, but does not work on 68000 CPU. There is also QL emulator which is very fast. The Sinclair QL uses 68008, which is the 8 bit little brother of the 68000, so not a problem at emulating it.

I was going to post on the same topic myself.
So AmiGameBoy and AmiMasterGear are the best for the Gameboy andMaster System.

What is the best NES and Spectrum emulator and can amy of them be played in a workbench window by any chance?
Amiga 4000, Warp Engine 040/40MHz, CV643D with scan doubler module, Tocatta soundcard, Deneb, 72Meg fast ram, 18 gig scsi hard drive.

3xA500, 1xA1200, 1xCD32

Hi All!

I developed AmiEmulators in a Stock Amiga 1200, but I never reached the needed speed to make a real console speed emulation. You need a minimun of a Stock A1200 with MC68020 at 28Mhz with 2Mb of real fast ram to reach real emulation speed in any of my emulators. (I bought a Blizzard 1220 accelerator about 12 years ago to enjoy them!!!) But a MC68030 at 50Mhz is recommended.

All my emulators are HIGHLY optimized, make more optimizations are not possible!!! :)

The best NES emulator is CoolNESs in my opinion.

ZXAM Spectrum emulator can be played in a Workbench window...

Greets!

Juan

- AmiGameBoy

and Started like alpha versions:

- AmiNES (Famicon)
- AmiPC-Engine

I always called them "AmiEmulators" :)

Greets Juan! Welcome to amiga.org... and thanks for writing some cool emulators. :pint:

Any chance you might someday continue to work on Ami-PC-Engine? :-)
