If they can keep the Latency down, this will kill the console!!

well it wont have the portability and use anywhere of the consoles, and the graphics are going to suffer under compression.  I cant see hw they will keep the latency down as this will be dow to the isps.

but still good idea

I doubt the terminal computer (at home) does any processing other than mouse/keyboard handling. But then again I didn't read much into it, but my guess is that they have some pretty fast hardware that does all the decoding, therefore it might be possible to only need a monitor, and thus an Amiga might be able to hook up to this service (although I bet there is software on the computer to 1) handle mouse/keyboard through the computer and not a separate pair and 2) somehow open the decoder box's video screen/mode into a native OS window (or full screen)). Interesting. Certainly interesting, especially if they can cram megabytes/sec into a 1.5MBit line...

Read about this on the other day. The breakout box seems to be all you need plugged into the TV, USB and HDMI are included on it, and a small processor for decompressing the video and sending key/mouse input back to the server.

I can't see how it can make money though? lots of online games have failed by only having a few hundred players per server.
Surely this would need one (high end) server per player?
At best I suppose you could have a quad core CPU and quad core GPU serving four players each. Very expensive however.

Anyone know how else they would do it? You can't rack mount these giant heat pumping GPU's either.

The price of the service is the same price as buying yourself a new console every year.  I fail to see the point.
Wanna try a wonderfull strategy game with lots of handdrawn anims,
Magic Spells and Monsters, Incredible playability and lastability,
English speech, etc. Total Chaos AGA

I think this has a potential to kill the console too, cause the net bandwidth seems to be increasing rapidly and the software houses will LOVE this as there's no possiblity of cracks & etc. Also the hardware will probably ultra cheap (though the games and net connection will make up for the cheap hardware)
