Any way to get a CompactFlash drive to work with an Amiga 500?

Not without finding either an IDE or PCMCIA controller for your 500. I'm pretty sure only one of those exists.

If you can find a SCSI controller for the 500, you might be able to find an IDE to SCSI adapter, but that may not exist either.

Thanks,

Buy a refurb A1200 from AmigaKit.   :-D    It might be cheaper then a 500 option, if one even exists.

500 is a cool machine, I have one, but you have so many more options with the A1200.   Access to more accelerators, IDE drives, PCMCIA cards, easy software switching from PAL/NTSC, AGA graphics, etc.

Plus just about anything for the 500, you can get working on a 1200.

AFAIK that does exists, but is rather expensive. Wasn't there also something like a CF to IDE?

Yes, CF to IDE will cost you about $5 US. You will have to find IDE for your 500 though, which could be hard to find and more expensive than just buying a 2000 or 1200. If you already have IDE on your 500 though, no problem.

I don't know if there are CF to SCSI adapters, or if there are IDE to SCSI adapters that you can use if you have SCSI on your 500.

I don't think anybody ever made a PCMCIA port for 500s.

Ok, I got the EasyADF kit today, fast delivery, thanks!  However I cant get it working.  I followed the instructions and I can see a green light on the PCMCIA adapter but when I try to go to CF0: in shell it says there is no disk in the drive.  I am using a Sandisk Extreme III 1GB CF card which according to windows is formatted to FAT file system.  Is there something else I need to do?

Thanks
Allan

CDs are so easy to use, why bother with all of the new hardware? 99% of the time, the only problem is that people use el-cheepo CD ROM writing software on the "PC", that doesn't use the correct format! Other "PC"s may read them, but Amigas will have trouble.
I use CDs to transfer info all of the time, with no problems.

Thanks for the information. I set WinUAE (and AMiKit) to run as administrator, and the button activates. Unfortunately, the external HD does not appear in the resulting dropdown list. I'm guessing the drive has to be internal. [/quote]

Nope all you need to do is use a USB in Mode 1 you can buy adapters that allow you to do this.  I know Microcenter.com sells a good one that works for sure in Mode1 for $15.00 its the one from Indland.
