dance/rave themed demos?
« on: March 10, 2009, 03:58:15 PM »
I've got a gig coming up projecting Amiga demos at a warehouse party. I'll be playing a bunch of my favorites, but I think it makes sense to work in a bunch of theme appropriate demos. I'm looking for demos with any sort of dancing, rave, or party themed visuals (music is irrelevant because the DJs will be providing sound).

Off the top of my head the only ones I can think of are "State of the Art" and "Nine Fingers" by Spaceballs and "Symbolia" by Access. Any others?

I have an A1200 with a Blizzard accelerator with a 68030. Currently have 64MB in it but have a 128MB SIMM coming in the mail which hopefully will come in time. So, I can do OCS/ECS/AGA, so my only limitations are CPU and memory. No '060/PPC demos or anything that requires >128MB.

Thanks!

Jesus on E's (rave) (OCS 1MB) - requires 2nd floppy drive I think
Retina (rave) (OCS 1MB)
Fairlight 242 (trancey) (OCS 1MB)
Anything you can run by 'The Black Lotus' group (typically hardware intensive)
3D Demo II (Gods rave remix track)

Yeah the TBL demos are gorgeous. I can get a few of them to run (like Requiem) but they go pretty slow. I'd like to get my hands on an '060 some day for either my 1200 or 4000 just so I can properly run those demos.

Thanks for the others.

try Amiga Demoscene Archive

usually has screen shots, and a brief synopsis of each demo. you can sort by what style you're looking for, or hardware, chipsets etc...]

hope this helps :-)

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD

Oh, good call. Saw a few other demo archives but they don't have as many options. I think maybe I've seen this one too but it's been a while.

Check out few quickly from YouTube, and then start searching for better quality videos or actual demos.

Yeah I've been doing the YouTube thing, but there's so many there and they aren't really classified.

That demoscene site looks good, only complaints are 1) doesn't seem to indicate PAL/NTSC, and 2) seems limited.

I downloaded several hundred demos from somewhere (AmiNet?) and the number of demos on demoscene doesn't even come close. I don't have time to wade through all the demos I have though, so it'll be a good starting point.

on Back To The Roots at least you can sort by AGA and ECS, and then by diskmag, scene, demo compilations...

looks like they have one or two demos on there :-) ....

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.

That B2R site is fantastic. The navigation is kind of clunky and there's not enough info on the demos, but it has one of the best demo collections I've seen in one place. Found a ton in there!

@murple

Keep In Mind your gonna connect to a Projector wich if it happens to support PAL usually only displays in Black and White. I have never seen an NTSC demo except maybe once.

Why not get yourself SCALA MM300 or MM400 and use that to disply animations. or even better, get the Amiga VJ application:  Elan PERFORMER (Hard to Find but I got my copies ;-P) even though it nly displays 16 colors in 704 x 480 (Because its Pre AGA)  You can use DCTV with it to display faster animations and in 16 MILLION colors.

I used these Apps when I worked at a club in Brooklyn, and for 4 hours straight displaying visuals while the DJ mixes the Music.

Hard to Find VJ apps and Hardware for Amiga:

LIVE! Hardware(A500 required)
LIVE! 2000 Hardware (A2000, 3000 or 4000 required ....needs tweaking for A3000 or 4000....or may not work)
MindEYE (Hardware that responds to Music and displays visuals)
MindLIGHT7 (Same as MindEYE but the earlier funky looking version)
Elan Performer (VJ application for thrpwong images and anims ont he screen quickly)
Elan INVISION  (Same as PERFORMER but requires LIVE! hardware)

SCALA MM300 or MM400 (PowerPoint for Amiga...but better in many ways....you can VJ with it)

Video CREATOR  (For the CD32.....creates music videos automatically to any CD inserted into the CD32...or create your own....or modify one already created)

MediaPOINT (Like SCALA MM300 but a little harder to use)

Good luck finding any of these... It certainly took me years.

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

I've never seen a black & white projector... at least not since the 1970s. I'm going to be using a VGA projector so PAL, NTSC, and color should not be an issue.

I have seen NTSC demos, though not nearly as many as PAL.

Thanks, haven't seen any of those but will look into them later. I got a copy of SCALA (along with the little joystick port dongle) with my first A1200 but have never used it for anything.

There was one really good one waaaay back on a demo disk from Amiga Format IIRC.  Cant remember the name but if anyone can it would be great.  I seem to remember a syringe and lots of psychedelia....
