Where did my boards go? (???!!)
« on: March 04, 2009, 09:36:57 PM »
Just experienced the weirdest Amiga related thing that has ever happened to me...
I was a happy bunny tonite when I solved my scandoubler/flickerfixer issue but after just moving my boot drive in a removable hd cradle and putting in a better SCSI cd-rom drive all my expansion boards (Cybervision 64, Ariadne, Toccata) are no longer recognized (???) only manafacturer 8512 product 100 is shown in the early Expansion Board diagnostic which I think is my CS PPC and when I boot I get just AGA since my CV64 is gone and no ariadne or toccata sound board available.
What can have happened? I haven't touched anything expect my SCSI drives and moved the cable a bit

It's an A4000T (Escom)

Seems like Board id 8512 is my Cybervision 64 which is odd since it doesn't work in OS3.9 or OS4.0

Maybe it's PSU related... :getmad:

Hmmm... only thing I can thing of is a short could have killed power to the backplane... buzz it out with a multimeter.

But if that had happened I am sure you would have smelt it ;-)

I have a 4000T that is doing something similar. Some of the cards disappear from my early boot menu and no longer function after booted. It only happens after my 4000T is warm though. I have thought about getting some of that electronics freeze spray and spray a components and reset, repeat until working. I wonder if Radio Shack has some. I just bought a new 400W AT power supply hoping it might fix the problem but it didn't make any difference. My 4000T is an (early) Rev 2 with 40.70 ROMs and my main accelerator is the CSMK3 which is very similar to yours. Hmmm.

Rev 2? Those exist? I'm guessing it's one of the 1993 show machines...

This may not be your problem but I have an A4000 desktop with a socketed Superbuster.  Anyway, the plastic plcc chip holder has warped over the years so that it doesn't make good contact with the middle pins of the chip (i.e. those furthest from the corners) and presto, no expansion boards show up.  If I take the chip out and reseat it it works for a while but then eventually all the expansion boards disappear again, except the accelerator of course.  My solution is to replace the Buster socket at some point.  So you might try there.

Buster is soldered  :boohoo:  so now way to see if it's toast
Guess I'll have to hire JJB if I can't find what's causing the trouble

Just removed all Zorro boards and left my video slot sd/ff in and the early startup screen still shows my Cybervision 64 (board ID 8512) wttff!!?? it's like my motherboard has some cmos like a PC where it's now saved in some zombie state
And my harddrie partitions on the harddrive connected to my Cyberstorm PPC scsi have vanished! wtf is going on?

After removing the SCSI cable and power to my SCSI cd-rom my SCSI HDD connected to my CS PPC is back again :P

Switched 68pin-->50pin SCSI adapter on the cd-rom and now it works again to have it hooked up

I put all Zorro boards back again but in a different order one by one and the now show up in the early startup menu (???)
I guess everything is bsck to normal but I wonder for how long

hmmmm, well, i wish you good luck! no signs of capacitor leakage anywhere on the board? afair, tha A4kT's used coin type batteries, but as yours is an early one, does it have the donkey kong exploding barrel battery?

just trying to think of possible problems from the symptoms! :-)

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD
