having problems installing quake2
« on: March 03, 2009, 03:18:53 AM »
when prompted to insert the quake 2 disk I insert the disk and as soon as the disk is detected I get the following error,

Guru Meditation 80000003
Task 0x6ec49e50 ("T:Qtools")
Generated a Error of type ISI
on address 0x88e453c8
redzone was not damaged
stackpointer is out of bounds (no hit)

Im on OS4 on a A1-c board and using a single cd drive to install.

any help is greatly appreciated, im a n00b so it could be something stupid and simple so mention anything no matter how idiotic it may seem to you

I think the install process was designed with 68K in mind, and, unfortunately, OS4 chokes on a lot of 68K stuff. Try installing manually - the only thing qtools does is extract the contents of the .pak files, which you should also be able to do with plain ol' UnArc.

Hopefully my install log can help you figure out manual installation.

Remember to get the update from Hyperion's website (assuming they ever put it back online) and to replace wizard.library with the OS4 native version.

If there's an OS4 native build of Quake 2, though, you should definitely use that.
